A few years ago I used some spray anti spatter that went on as a dry powder. It was great because it stayed on if the part was hot, and could be applied to preheated parts without flashing off. Don't remember the brand / source......anybody know where to get it ? THANKS

Hey mate,

Welcome to the show,

Was it something like this?

If so that makes it along the same lines as dye penetrant developer. It sprays on as a liquid but dries very quickly leaving a fine powder behind.

In case you're wondering, I am a Blacksmith who builds ALL his own tools...anvil, hammer, forge, press, power hammer, surface grinder, drill press etc and now I build for other smiths, too.

Ted,
Would you like to share some advise and pictures of your tools and equipment over in General/Forge Welding and Blacksmithing thread?

Ted'
I remember from a recent post on welding safety that the Spay-on brand of antisplatter had Chlorine in it and this can be bad news when heated turning into Phosgene gas. Read the label on anything you are about to heat or weld now days. I'm no expert on the matter, but I believe the effects are not reversible and not pleasant.

I have heard recently that sooting the area with an O/A torch works as an anti spatter. I haven't had a chance to try it yet.
