Ok guys need some advice before I go chopping.
If you can see in the pic, the hitch is bowed down, which is critical on this bed because it has hinge points and dumps.
I want to jack it up straight, cut the hitch off, and put a piece 1/2in thick 2x2 and underneath and then reweld the hitch back on.
I'll get more pics and add to the design.

I spoke to soon,
I will be cutting the receiver off, and putting a piece of angle across horizontal, than weld the receiver back on.
I'll get you some more pics when I get into it.

So to make sure I am on the same page, you will cut the square tube receiver off the preexisting angle, replace said angle and weld square tube receiver back on? If this is correct, I see a lot of work in the corners where the hinges seem to be. Could you just straighten the bent angle and reinforce it with more plate or square tube? Just a thought.

I was not the boss here.
But, we were moving bales today, and we had set one on the bed to haul when I'm done.
And it made for a cool pic.

We thought the bales would be enough weight to jack up.
But the jack lifted the whole truck.

Not a dumb question at all.

Here is another truck I redid the same way. only the receiver tubes go on top.
I put a piece of 1/2 in angle under it and welded both sides.
Turned out pretty good.

Ok, putting the hitch back on.
Using a piece of 1/2 in flat bar about 6in wide too even up the bottom to put the tube back on.

So I put it in my Dewalt chop saw, And I can not believe the quality of cuts I'm getting on 1/2 inch plate.
FLAWLESS!!!!

Holding everything in place, going to tack the tube to the plate, take it down, then weld it flat.

Tube is welded to the plate then stuck back up there,
I beveled all around that plate, then I'll weld it on!!!

This is the best stick welding machine I've used, it has the smoothest arc, and sticking free starts that ain't saying much.
Is is amazing.
