Complement for using a 7024, which is known for running really nice beads, on a scrap piece of metal, in the flat position...
Well heck man, I know you can do a lot more interesting welding than that!

My bad, John...

I made a "hard-on" pill joke out of the curled up flux (which is a compliment in itself... it's challenging to get the flux to peel up like that) without first commenting on it being a very nice looking weld.

The 7018 weld looked great, too.

Compliment for what? I don't see anything spectacular in the photo, quite honestly. There's nothing special about slag peeling off in one piece when welding with 7024. I thought all experienced users of 7024 knew that.

Do you want honest opinions? Here's one: your weld bead is not consistent as it's not straight to say the least. Your 7018's are also crooked in your other thread. It's like your weld bead was changing lanes all over the highway there Mate. Merely judging a weld by the piece of slag coming off is not how a weld bead is judged. It's the weld bead under the slag that matters. Tight, straight beads with a toe line that looks like it was drawn with a straight-edge and now you're talking. Show me the money AK!

These welds of mine are nothing to write home about, much less brag on a forum with them...

I joined this forum to learn and then I read a couple of comments and I get the feeling that not everyone is "supportive" of others accomplishments. Personally, the weld looks "good" to me but as a newbie with ZERO welding experience it may be weak, not straight and little wide and blotchy... BUT who cares, we are here to show people OUR accomplishments, achievements and oddities.

I am glad I saw this post before I put up some of my "CRAP"... saves me the embarrassment from negative comments or bashing. I was hoping this forum was comprised of "positive" people and "positive" comments, I know that CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is always appreciated but to down right just blast someone when they are showing off something that they thought was "COOL" is unfair.

I rather enjoyed his Cialis joke, added some humor to this post. Hope I am not out of line but we are here to learn, share our experiences and overall enjoy each others posts... I say, "post anything welding related" and lets discuss them and review them to find their flaws and learn how to NOT do it again!

Ok.. there's my NEWBIE rant for the day... hehe

One thing to keep in mind, some of us here have been friends for quite a while and some actually know and talk to each other on the phone. With that said no harm or offense is taken when we pick on each other. Please don't take this thread in the wrong way. NONE here will flame you, put you or your welds down or exclude you because you can't weld or or not as good as others. Please feel free to post pictures of even you worst welds. Remember we all started from scratch and we all are on different skill levels and all continue to improve. The only time you will get criticism from me and the other active members is when you specifically ask for it. Period. Also we all support each others accomplishments and will wholeheartedly support yours.
I will let Steve and John comment on this as well.
Oh and if you haven't noticed, we just love picking on John..... love you John

Carl,
There's some good old fashion ribbing that goes on here and not a lot of actual bashing, so don't judge by this post the actual nature of this site. If you read enough of the back posts you'll see most of us were having fun at the OP's expense. Some of us have an odd sense of humor that doesn't always translate well in print but I can assure you this is the friendliest welding site on the web.

Well, I figured as much. I am close to several of my Motorcycle friends and when we post odd stuff it doesn't always "look" appropriate but it is all in fun!
