A convex back side of weld

Sorry for my english. How to weld stainless steel pipe if need back side of seam had convex from 0.5 to 1.5 millimeters?
Seam showed under looks is not bad, but his back side is flat. Engineer-welder said me what by world standards back side of weld must be convex a few (from 0.5 to 1.5 mm).
