I have started welding school at a local technical college.Currently we are studying stick .Already have a stick machine and mig and a flux core machine to practice with at home .Looking to add a tig machine .I see quite a few 200 amp machines .A few are even AC/DC .I want to add a machine that has enough amperage to be able to practice what I will be learning in school .I am not exactly sure how many amps I will need in a machine .So far most of the material is 3/8” plate and 6” pipe .What amperage should I be looking for ?

Probably the more important feature would be a machine that is dual voltage. You’d find that machine is also likely to be a 200 amp box (the majority of welding is 200 or less).

PrimeWeld makes a very good 225 machine, AC/DC, PULSE, etc for less than $1,000. Really hard to beat it. Can even buy it from Weldmonger Store.
