tig or mig?

for mig a small problem hobby guys get is the wire rusting. rust can come off in the liner and cause it to drag.
i would check your wire speed with a tape measure and timer.
tweak it until it breaks

a friend of mine has an older century wire welder. He began having issues after it sat for a spell. Right where the whip connects to the machine he began having a helluva lot of problems. Check that area , might be corrosion or something else going on.
