I'm going to have to work on my pipe welding, I want one for my TDI, but can't stand the thought of paying what the commercial offerings are asking!

Yeah there was no way I was going to pay near $300 for a DP, I actually don't have a ton of money in everything front to back. I bought some fittings from Andron Stainless, if I knew how to pie cut or.could easily cut those at home I would have saved even more. It's been fun...have to mock it up today to get the angle of the DP right and make the middle section....then just weld it and add hangers. I used a 2"-3" reducer at the flange so I'd have bolt clearance, and a Vibrant Flex joint.

Prototype done for the 10th Gen Civic Intercooler and Charge Pipe setup.

First time welding cast with 5356, can't say I'm really a fan. I don't know if I'll get to weld anymore of these, but we'll see if I can weld one with 5356, 4043, and 4943 back to back to back (batch work is nice for testing some times) with identical settings and see who can tell what! Ok this one was not today but I wanted to share it. This was at a nuclear plant on the turbine deck (so no radiation that's why I had my phone)

Welded this today.

This will have a big tower mounted on top like the last one I built. They wanted it to hinge on 2 small brackets, but there's no way it old hold plus the brackets were way off so I built a doubler and gussets.

This will be really cool when it's done I'll show you guys later hopefully.

Keep forgetting to post my experiences with SolarFlux. This stuff is gold if backpurging stainless isn't reasonable or practical. I use it with ISO alcohol, works GREAT!!!

Did you butter up the two halves before or after you tacked them up?

After, I tried to keep the tacks shallow. I didn't clean it all up since it's just an exhaust pipe but I wiped off an area with acetone and it's nice and shiny metal underneath.

Cool! I was wondering if it would interfere with the weld process if it was worked down into a crack. I'm envisioning that you might be able to coat the two sides before you tack up. If there was no way to get at the joint after fit up.

Open your pic in "Paint", save it in correct orientation and reload. Default windows viewers often load sideways, didn't used to but hey MS has to justify an upgrade somehow!
