found some erni cr-3 laying around the shop today I'm assuming it's nickel what would you use this rod for what applications?

That's an Inconel 82 rod if I remember correctly, and starting to get quite expensive, so I wouldn't waste it welding up lawnmower decks and the like.

Judging by the "ni" and "cr"...I would venture a guess that it has higher percentage of nickel and chromium in it...
well just from a google search I found this:
Braehill was right, it's Inconel 82, an AWS A5.14 material

Motox,
No it's not made to weld dissimilar metals. That's not to say you can't weld a non- critical part together with it, but why would you waste expensive wire on them.

i get it.. after reading jwrights post and reading about, it using it
to do simple welds is like using lobster meat to catch eels
