I have seen a lot of welders who back feed a root pass that put a bridge tack to hold the pipe in position. This does not burn in to the root and only contacts the groove, and welders are able to apply a bridge tack without an internal purge on the pipe. During a test if a welder wanted to back feed their root would it b e ok to place bridge tacks on the pipe. I would think maybe it would be best to ask the testing inspector first?
