Hello
Mig welder machine say weld metal 5/16 inch thick ,question if got metal 1/2 thick ,can person Go over weld couple time to get enough heat penetration?
In another word if machine only can weld 5/16 thick metal ,how will you weld metal thick 5/16 ,be side buying another bigger welding machine?

The 5/16" rating of your machine is for "single pass" penetration. If you need to weld thicker material, you can either: bevel, multi-pass, or preheat (some circumstances).

Based on what you said, I assume you have a smaller mig machine and will use self shielded flux core. If not, then whatever, but some self shielded wires are not rated for multi pass welds. Make sure you read about the wire you have.
A student now but really want to weld everyday. Want to learn everything about everything. Want to become a knower of all and master of none.
