Flux Core Welding

Have moved to flux core 0.045 (1.2mm) from solid 0.035 (0.9mm)
Tried running beads on 1.6mm plate instant holes
Able to run beads on 3mm plate but slag only on edge not full coverage and bead is a dark dull grey
Tried fillet weld on 3mm weld is uniform but has undercut

I've never done it but about to. Its not the polarity is it. Flux core is run in DCEN. Normal mig runs in DCEP.

Sounds like DCEP, too much heat going into the material and blowing holes or cooking it. Probably other reasons but easy to rule out the simpler ones first.

1.2 flux core is industrial size and not used on material that thin. It generally runs hotter with deeper penetration. Get some thicker material, crank the settings, check the polarity, (some migs)can't change easily.) Also, lots of flux core runs with 75/25% gas. Called argoshield 52 in Australia.

Checked Polarity all good - Wire is E71T-11 so its self shielded
Will get some thicker practice pieces if all works out will drop down to 0.035 (0.9mm) flux core for the thinner stuff figured 0.035 solid would be the same as 0.045 flux core
