Can a argon/argon co2 regulator be used with straight co2 gas? I know the co2 regulator has a female end and I have seen adaptors so would this be the only difference in the two?

Yes, you can get an adapter to connect your argon regulator (cga 540) to a co2 bottle (cga 320). Make sure you get a nylon or teflon gasket to help seal.

I've heard the regulator may ice up at high co2 flow rates.

Good luck with it! I picked up a co2 bottle for MIG too, but haven't used it yet.

Some of my regulators and flowmeters are labeled as to whether they are rated for straight CO2.... And you can check with the maker, too.
