Grounding mig welder?

Hi everyone,
Brand new to welding and have a millermatic 141. My question is is it okay to ground the unit to stainless steel? The table I have has a stainless steel top.
Thanks.

Are you talking about putting the work clamp on your table? If so, that's fine. People often mistakenly call the work cable/clamp the ground clamp, but that's really not correct.

If you're talking about grounding the welder to the table that's an entirely different matter, but I can't imagine why you would want to do that.

Sure thing! One of my tables is 1/4" stainless (got it free) and the only downside is you can't use magnets on it to hold stuff :D

I have a small brass topped table that I hook my ground clamp directly to and have clamped the ground directly to stainless practice pieces so I can't imagine why it would be an issue.
