I just joined this site a minute ago so my question was probably asked before, but I'm thinking about buying a millermatic 211 for home use and was wondering if this was a good welder for building say a snowmachine trailer or other smaller projects?

Couple of questions first. 1. Do you need portability? 2. What type of power do you have access to, 120,240? 3.What is your price range? 4. Is it just for home projects?

Yes I do need to be portable. My first project is going to be a set of spiral staircase off my deck. The only power I have right now is my regular outside outlets for yard work which I believe to be 110. I am planning on building a shop/ garage but still have some dozer work I need to finish. I was originally looking bigger but with my power set up I thought this may be the way to go. I guess I would pay about 2,000 for a welder but since it's just for home use I thought maybe I could get welder, bottles, spoolgun, and cart for under 2 grand..

Well, if you will be putting 240 volts in your shop in the future I would probably recommend the 211. If you want to stick with 120 volts then go with the millermatic 140. They both have the same output power on 120 volts. They are both 90A @ 20% duty cycle. They are both spoolgun compatible, the difference is the 211 has the dual voltage input for both 115v and 230v and costs about $400 more.
