I am trying to find out what size wire to buy for my first project, box section mild steel no more than 2mm thick. To be honest any project I have in mind probably won't exceed 3-4mm.

I think that any wire form say 0.8mm to 1.2mm will work but is there an optimal choice, or perhaps a calculation or chart I missed somewhere.

I have seen this page and it helps to get in the right area wire speed chart

Hey. You won't need anything more than .9mm anything bigger is for heavy fab.

No probs. Jody has a video on very small Mig wire, 0.25 maybe. Said it worked surprisingly well.
