I am a Newby and have an older CH Farm Hand 125 mig. The wire and tip is always hot. Is there a way to modify this by adding a relay or contactor? I only have $100 in the welder. This is a troublesome condition and seems to me a safety issue.

Hi there, apparently this is a feature of very cheap and nasty wire feed welders. Gasless, kind of like a little stick welder with a wire feed motor added. You could add those bits you are talking about, but why when a bit more saving will get you a good second hand Hobart, miller or Lincoln.
