Aerotek is an industrial staffing agency that has been "staffing (intentional double entenre')" the American craftsman for some time. They are taking full advantage of the 20%+ unemployment rate among industrial craftsmen, offering crappy wages, long hours, and no per diem, while still raping the contractors they provide labor for. I absolutely refuse to work for them, or any other "labor finder" service.

The work is out there, and the market is rapidly improving. The Federal Reserve has been shoveling money into banks for over a year, and the banks are finally getting confident enough to lend that money to contractors who have been putting off promised project until the money came through. We may soon have so much work breaking out at once that employers will be competing for us, rather than the other way 'round.

Now, if we can just afford the gas to get there...

Not gonna get into the debate, suffice to say ive been unemployed for the better part of a year, and am stickin with my union because work -is- coming (Keystone pipeline to name one project).

That company is crap-they have job offers in every market in the country(at least every time i look for a job abrod that same company pops up). Look at their qualifications-MIG/ TIG / Arc / Galvanized/ Stainless Steel / Structural Steel / Mild Steel. Thats a full duty welder-should demand at least 20 bucks an hour. Bet ya your first paycheck you wont get 15 in any market.(not really, im broke. just tryin to make a point)

MY question is-ALOT of these companys are asking for a "certified" welder. Thats also a hell of alot of certs to carry around with ya, at around 120 bucks a pop-your lookin at 1000 dollars worth of certifications there, and they dont even specify the process. Doesnt say anything about the company certifying you/paying to certify you either.

Yeah, aeroteck is one of those really shitty staffing agencies. Honestley, at least in my area(most of the shipyards use these temp agencies as their full workforce. on US military bases, isnt that sad?) These staffing agency guys are half the work around here, getting on permanant anywhere is damn near impossible. Anyway, the main draw back to these places, is that(at least in virginia) the "temporary" status of your employment cheats you out of your right to unemployment when the work gets slow. Not to mention that the conditions are ussually pretty bad. Definately the
worst side of capatalism.

But take what you can get right?

with all this shit talking about aerotek, this dude is never posting up here again lol!

But fuck'um

-Right

ARGH that kills me. For one their exploiting workers and for two, the boys buildin our military machines aint even gettin payed or treated half way fair. And meanwhile, some POS company is makin a killin, exploiting both our workers and our military. I for one think that ship fitters should be some of the highest paid workers around-they definately do some of the tightest welding. But noone cares what I think, I'm just some punk kid :(
