At kermdawg's suggestion, this is now an independent topic.

I invite anyone to share job search engines that work, tips on active jobs, and reviews of any jobsites you're on.

Copied from my post on another topic:

I find a lot of useful leads on http://www.roadtechs.com
Even during the leanest times, there was always at least some shipyard work. The downside is the number of headhunter agencies who collect resume's and rarely call.

http://www.constructionworkers.us is a search engine dedicated to job posts. I prefer to use the "super search" option. I enter "weld per diem" under "what", and leave "where" blank, and usually get many postings. Check the post date at the bottom of each listing.

http://www.indeed.com can be used the same way.

If you'll follow the "hot projects" section of the forum
http://www.industrialprojectsreport.com ... efault.asp
there are a lot of job tips exchanged, often with condition reports from the jobsite. There is a certain amount of B.S. to sift through. The site is the author of the "HotSheet", and if you choose to subscribe I recommend the online version, and start dialing as soon as it comes in.

One other site I check has more activity for residential/commercial construction, but occasionally has good leads for welders is:
http://www.drywallflorida.com
Don't let the name fool you; They list all kinds of construction jobs all over the country.

P.S. KBR is about to start a biodeisel project in Columbus, MS (I spoke to an on-site HR guy today).

To apply, you first have to do an online profile at kbr.com. However, their jobs page is down for upgrades for another day or two.

That roadtechs site paid off again. I'll be leaving for PA Saturday for two months of nearly $3K a week.

Well, Kermdawg,

The customer is AirGas, the shop I'll be in is Herr & Sacco, and ULG will write the checks.

Assuming this goes well, there could be up to 24 months of follow-on work installing all the stuff I'm building. I think he said Clarksville, TN.

I won't see the shop 'til tomorrow, but for what they're paying I wouldn't be surprised if it were air-conditioned. 8-)

It's been a sweet gig so far, and they aren't doing 100% x-ray. Apparently the shop average has been so good they're only shooting about 10% of the welds.

Mine will finally get x-rayed this week.

The only other thing I've had x-rayed in my life is my head, and I won't be discussing those results. :o
