Whos hiring and where, pay, hours, Certification tests given, tig, mig, stick?

I already have a job in excavations, but I'm trying to get into welding, is rigth now a good time to make a career change ?
Has the welding market been affected by our economy ? ( How bad is it ?)

Tony,

I think now would be a hard time to get into anything really. Taking a welding class or two, or three now will of course allow you to really jump out there when the economy improves. it really depends where you live, but where I'm at(norfolk, VA) , all the shipyard welders are laid off and beatin the streets, so it creats a very hard market for guys trying to get an entry level job(becuase there is about 500 guys with 10 years experiance willing to work for the same as you).

And thats just how it is, man.
