What are you skilled at??
Process's/ Materials etc etc??
Just a couple welders and a couple of big hammers and torches.

Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it.

Step 1. Create a short and sweet resume detailing what you can do and what skills you have and what weld processes you have used. Then there are the tests Plate(3g 4g) & Pipe(6g) are the main tests you will need to pass. Google welding resumes to get some ideas of what to put. You can pretty much guarantee a job if you can test out in 6g, pass a drug test, and aren't an illegal. There is a very high demand for pipe welders and fitters. I've had half a dozen industrial pipe offers in the last month, but my background is more aerospace/gas turbine. Plus I want to keep TIG welding.

Step 2. upload this resume to indeed.com and just start applying for positions that pertain to your skill set.

Step 3. Find out the details of the weld test, and Practice, Practice, Practice.

There's a ton of work fitting your description in Baton Rouge. I'd have to assume the same exists in Houston, as the job market is level from Biloxi to Galveston.

It's worth buying a Sunday paper, as some jobs are not listed on line...

Check the web site for Valmont Industries. I looked them up and they are hiring welders in some place called Brenhan, Texas. Valmont uses primarily 0.45 hard wire, spray transfer (gas mix around 95%-5%).

Here in the South Bend, Indiana area, there are loads of welding jobs. The cost of living here is very low.

I hope this is useful!
