Keep an eye on this one for updates guys. I will be posting pictures periodically for all to see and critique if you feel the urge. What we are doing is taking an old stainless steel milk tanker and adding an AR steel sump and pumping unit for transferring liquid from one tank to another. Here is a picture of the very beginning... Wish me luck!

LOOKS LIKE A LOT OF FUN!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to see the progress.
Here I had started cutting out the necessary areas for the new sump. After a few hours and some fire we decided to remove all of the insulation from the back of the tank (don't worry it was very small but it coulda been much bigger). There was a double-layered support ring at the back that I had to go through as well as a frame member to get the depth and width needed to feed the pump housing. I think I arced it apart in 10 pieces or so, it was very tight and difficult to get the plaz torch in there. More today....

Told ya more today! Here's a quick view of the sump before it went into the back of the tank. We used a 12" x 1/4" wall x 24" long pipe for the sump just to make sure we got enough liquid into the pump housing. Laugh if you want at my crazy way of positioning the sump in there (I actually pulled it out and put it back in and leveled it to where it needed to be 3 times!).

Ok don't look to close at the welds... I'm having a learning curve with stainless and flux cored wires. The sump ended up being part of the structure of the rear of the tank so I had to do my best getting it welded all the way around. I'll tel you now that it is no fun to weld cored wire overhead when you don't even have the opportunity to duck away from dripping goobers. quite a few red spots on my chest and arms. The next post will be just pictures of the sump finished. It was a ton of work.

This is the completed sump. With the new housing hanging off of the back. One picture is obviously from inside of the tank. Again try no to look to closely at the welds. Part of my problem came from not realizing how thin the tank was until it was too late. 
Duh! why didn't I think about that 
Oh well its all welded good now I just ended up with some gaps that were not easy to deal with. Hang in there for more pics!

man that was pretty fast. Looks good. I wish I had a project that big to tackle they are always a lot of fun.
Hate to disappoint you guys that were watching this. This project is not going to be completed by me and there will be no more posts. It was going to be one of my last projects while working for my dad but months of chatter behind my back and a jerk customer blew up in my face last week. Now I'm left trying to drum up work for my mobile service. Wish me luck...
