Yamaha RD 500 custom pipes

Hi guys, another two stroke project from me. I build these pipes during the summer in 2015. They were a total nigthmare to build as the upper pipes has to intersect to fit the beautiful Akrapovič silencers at the end. Everything is packed so tight They are made from 0.8mm thick cold rolled steel. Everything was done by hand, including cutting and rolling the sheet metal. It was absolutely one of the most difficult projects I have done. Here are some pictures.

The geometry itself is copied from jolly moto, as I had no experience in calculation of exhast for 125cc. Shape and curves were all done by me, I help myself with a model made from a steel wire.

Beautiful! I'd love to hear them under hard acceleration. Can you tell me how you design the chamber dimensions? Is there a program for that?

One of the most popular programs is Two Stroke Wizard...

I have to comment here. You can spot a pro and an amateur very easy with "stroke" versus "cycle". There's no such thing as a "two-cycle" or "four cycle" motor.

Your options are "two-stroke cycle", and "four-stroke cycle". You're describing what happens in ONE cycle of the motor.

Sadly, manufacturers of lawn equipment are following the trend of crappy language, and calling their equipment "two-cycle" and "four-cycle".

you can tell pro by the AMA inspection sticker on his frame...

And he's the guy that sits with his crew while they work on his bike and watches instead of bouncing around to every team, trying to get someone to like him. Has never worked.

Indeed. I noted that he said "two-stroke", not "two-cycle", throughout his comments.

Holy smokes!

Very, very nice work. Totally get how complicated this is. Routing through the frame and clearing bodywork ain't easy.

Do you still have patterns? I wouldn't mind having a go at some titanium ones for my 500. Something else to add to the list of projects!

Mark.
