Re: Steel roses

MarkL wrote:Wow, very nice. Did you form the petals individually by hand, or did you make some kind of fixture to shape them?
Bent them individually. Cut out the top piece with 5 "petals" and bent the two in the middle really tight. That way they are each a little different.

Re: Steel roses

I got bored a lunch and did some calculations and with purchasing sheet meta and round stock at menards, I should be able to make each rose for $2.60. Each rose takes 15-20 min to make so I figure $10-$15 would make a solid profit. I was gonna try and make little stuff out of stainless filler wire l...

Re: Determining weld size

Okay, I probably should have asked this before I built the skid steer trailer mover. Used their plate which I beleive to be 3/16" and the plate and tubing were 1/4" and I'm sure the welds ended up at at least 3/8" with short circuit mig. Welded all around the base of the tubing and 8 ...

Re: Determining weld size

So does making a fillet weld larger then the base metal affect the properties of the weld like excessive face reinforcement does?

Steel roses

So about a month and half ago some chick at school asked me to make her some steel roses for Christmas gifts for her family. Of course I said yes and figured out a simple way to do so. It is 1/4" round stock, and 3 pieces of 16 gauge sheet metal that I cut out on the cnc plasma cutter. Everyone...

Determining weld size

So in fabrication like in your home shop, how do you determine weld size? Or for that matter, how do you determine which process to use? Any tricks and tips?

Re: 5G Hot Pass

the Test I took allowed for use of 3/32 or 1/8. But sch 40 pipe is so thin that it’s much easier to do with 3/32. Edit The test I took was for pressure pipe. Isn’t D1.1 for structural steel? There is probably a wps for your test. Any and all allowances and limitations are on that paper. ASME code? ...

Don't worry. I don't use abbreviations when texting or emojis even. I hate them. I don't know what any of them mean and don't care to learn what they mean. It really pisses me off when people say stuff like "lol"

Dress ready to make a weld, but look well dressed. Just try to relax so you can answer in a thoughtful manner, don't talk fast and use good grammar, be honest and enthusiastic. Good luck Nick, I think you'll do well ;) Well formally I can't touch any welding equipment due to the fact I am currently...

Job Interview Tips and Tricks

So tomorrow I go in to a local company to discuss an internship while I am in high school with the company. This seems less formal than an interview and an actual job placement, but it has stirred up the thought of, what is different about welding job interviews. As I have gone through school, peopl...

I'll assume your budget is $2k or less for a AC/DC Tig unit and you're located in the US Some options are Miller Diversion Lincoln Square Wave tig 200 Everlast, you'll find some love them, some hate them. AHP makes a unit for around $1k, never used one but have read good things. Foot pedal is very ...
