Re: New to the forum..

Welcome aboard mate!

I use the old version of the 211 at my high school and it is a solid machine. Don't be afraid to post any pictures or questions about your welds.

Self Shielded Flux core

Why are most self shielded flux core wires run on DCEN when most other wire feed processes are on DCEP?

Re: Filler Wire When is it Done?

For me it is as much as I can without burning my hands. Usually around 1-2" at the most. I usually just scrap the ends because all I use is basic filler-4043,308L, and ER-70s6. Some guys will take and reeled the nubs together to make a full piece of filler if it is expensive stuff like titanium...

Re: 2 questions about Lanthaned and pure electrode

Welcome aboard mate! Usually there is no inherent risk due to the lack of volume of the radioactive material. If it was truly dangerous, some government organization would have added more safety for it or eliminated it. I can not answer about the pure tungsten myself but I am sure others can.

Re: Carbon Steel TIG Butt Joint Problem

With that thin of square tubing you are almost definitely going to be pulling garbage from the backside of the metal. You are pulling the oxides and other particles and contaminants thought the metal due to how thin it is. You can take a die grinder or something similar to clean the inside at your j...

Re: I found and solved the problem

After thinking about things over the weekend I went out to my garage/shop yesterday and found a couple of issues. #1 -- I checked all of the fittings for my gas line to insure that they were tight and discovered that the gas line was not fully seated in the quick dis-connect on the front of my AHP....

Re: Welding with an implanted cardiovertor defibrilator

In the nuke plant they equip everyone inside with an electronic detector\recorder for keeping track of radioactive exposure. About the size of a pager. If you tig weld with one of these on it will pick up the magnetic electric field and give false readings. No idea what your installed med equipment...

Re: Welding with an implanted cardiovertor defibrilator

I know one guy who has the same problem as you do and he avoids welding like the plague. Even small shocks may become an issue now and again. I definitely wouldn't reccomend tig welding. The high frequency would set it off for sure. I agree with cold man. Oxy acetylene is always an option.

Re: Paying Taxes. Getting paid under the table.

Some people feel that not paying your legally required portion of taxes is a display of poor moral character. If they wanted you to pay your fair share of taxes they wouldn't have made deduction, exclusions, and exceptions. I make a pretty decent chunk of change every year but as far as the IRS kno...

I've done some art stuff with cast iron and mild steel with 6011. And self shielded flux core. Then some dummy stood on it and it held so...that worked it my case at least.

Maybe try cue sticking the electrode. Grab it a couple inches away from the end of the electrode to steady it. That has haloed me some with that type of work. Just be sure to take your hand off because they get hot quick.

So my high school, after me complaining for 3 years, purchased a new tig/stick machine. We received it Thursday afternoon and I set it up on Friday morning. First impressions was that it was well built and the components were 50/50 good. I was not happy with the ground clamp or the stinger. They wor...

Nick, the union sounds like a good opportunity, however if you didn't go that route, what opportunities exist locally for you? I've never been in the union so I can't comment about that. I live in a very rich manufacturing area. There are a lot of local manufacturers. We have several trailer and tr...

So...Union?

So as I approach the end of my endeavor in my high school I have really been thinking about which way I want to go into welding. Part of me wants to do repair work on heavy equipment or railcars, or become a custom fabricator at a fab shop, or join my local steamfitters union. I have a guy at my chu...
