Re: Another 6010 Question.
It doesn't have a dedicated ground like one welder I previously owned had.......it has a toggle button for either "e6010" or "standard". I'll try sweeping the rod like I do on aluminum tig if that's what you're referring to. I had tried it at 75 amps anx the keyhole was getting o...

Another 6010 Question.
Ok, so I'm trying to learn open root welding on horizontal plate 3/8" thick with 1/8" land). I bought some 1/8" Lincoln Fleetweld 5P+ for the job (damn they were expensive at my LWS @ $46 for 10 lbs). Problem is that they won't stay lit at 65 amps. 80 amps and they'll run all day long...

Re: Why are my aluminum welds turning out like this?
140 amps is enough to get the job done on 1/8" aluminum. My guess is that you were using 6061 filler on the good weld and now you have switched to 4043 filler. 4043 doesn't flow as evenly as does 6061. You were also moving and pausing when you were making the good welds. Now you're moving the t...

How Did You Start Your Business?
I'm about to have business cards made so that I can get my own side project going. I've discovered over the years that I much prefer to repair things as opposed to making things. So I'm going to take my cards around to many of the local auto shops and restaurants, etc in order to try and drum up a l...

There was no way to get comfortable on this one so i had a couple of voids on the inside. I lost one of my tig fingers which i needed for the feed wire. So much for a pretty weld.

Re: HTP 221-Tig Welding Aluminum-Rod won't melt into plate
If you nail a 1/8" aluminum plate with 200 amps it should blow through instantly. 140 - 150 is about all you're gonna need. You'll have to move a lot faster witb 150. I'm with everyone else who are saying that you have too much arc length........WAAAAAY too much arc length. From the looks of th...

Re: Polaris RZR Round Two
I'll find out what year his machine is in case this whole thing goes south. I'm fairly certain that it's from either the first or second production year of the RZR. I got the holes filled in but I'm not sure how deeply everything is penetrated. I cut short sections of rod and put them in the holes b...

Transmission case isn't the problem. This is the engine. Its one of the first of these RZRs and they do not hold up to roll overs very well. He didn't know this thing was broken when he bought it.

The why is because he doesn't want to do it right. I can't offer you any better explanation than that. Those holes on the bottom are twice the size that they should be because he put some inserts in them which he had to promptly remove. The inserts were the wrong size. They were much like a grade 8 ...

Filling those bolt holes was a no go. It kept blowing the rod back into my electrode. Putting in a plug was one avenue that the owner was thinking about as well. Good call. I think he's wanting to redrill and tap the holes. He said something this morning about having six bolts in there instead of fo...

Not exactly sure what this guy has in mind for this puppy, I only know what he has asked me to do to it. He had me weld up the transmission mount on the top side several months ago. He didn't do his part correctly and he snapped the wheel studs that he used to tie the engine back to the transmission...

{snip} in wider society, manual trades are often portrayed as undesirable meathead jobs occupied by people not smart enough to go to college. The holy grail is to go to college, graduate, work in an office, wear a suit, delegate. Leave the menial stuff to the hordes of underpaid dumb arses. And thi...

That would be one way to do it but if you have a firm grasp on how to use a pedal then it's really not too difficult to control it with many parts of your body. People who don't know any better trip out when they see me using my heal, knee or thigh to control the pedal. I just call them the "un...

I don't have that problem. I own very few tools. I know several people who have all the tools I could ever need and the knowledge of how to do most things that I want to accomplish. You could probably weld it with a coat hangar and it would be ok. It's probably not a chromoly frame. Coat hangars are tough.

Re: Calling all Lathe Operators
Here's how you solve that problem:
1). Send the first lathe to me (you pay shipping).
2). Send the next one to Poland after you purchase lathe #3 (stipulation from step #1 applies here as well).
3). Keep repeating this process with other site members til you go broke.
