Re: Welding near insulation?

Thanks. I'm stick welding which is why I'm concerned. Also, when I took a lighter to a piece of insulation, It went up like a piece of paper.

Re: Welding near insulation?

I thought about that only I can't get to most of the insulation to wet it and I don't want to seal that moisture inside the floor pan.

Welding near insulation?

Hey guys, I'm doing some rust repair on my rocker panels and floor pans. I got some good patches on the inside of the rocker panels but, I need to weld near and on a floor pan or two before I close it up. Problem is that floor pan has insulation inside. I pulled a piece out and lit it on fire to see...

Any experience with the ARKSEN welders?

I'm wondering what experiences you've had with these budget ARKSEN welders. Were you able to get an arc, make a decent bead ext... Also, what model and what rods?

Idk. I can check next time I give it another go. Assuming I do. Why do you ask?

Re: No arc, very frustrating.

Idk why I choose 6013. I believe someone told me it runs well on 110v AC. I can't see myself purchasing more rods. Unless, more agree that it's likely the culprit. I have a project I really want to finish but my experience with welding has brought me nothing but headaches. I've had this machine for ...

No arc, very frustrating.

First off let me just say that this is a cheap made in China welder which may be the problem. I have 90-250a AC 110v AC stick welder. I tried running 1\8th 6013 awhile ago but couldn't get an arc. Today I got some 1\16th 6013 thinking surely It's small enough to run on my machine. Well, I'm still ha...

Re: 50a breaker tripping on start up?

As far as I can tell, that's not true. I've installed 3 and 4 prong dryer plugs and the 3 prong ones don't have a ground. In fact, it says neutral on the cord and the wiring diagram. The 3 prong dryer plug I installed on the welder also says neutral on the center wire. It's the same plug that my dry...

Re: 50a breaker tripping on start up?

Turns out the dryer (and stove) receptical is a 3 prong with 2 hot and a neutral. The welder is 2 hot and a ground. When hooking up the dryer plug, I hooked ground to neutral thinking that it was a ground. Are they compatible or is that why my breaker is tripping?

Ground hooked up to a neutral?

Re: Neutral vs ground?

 Is connecting it's ground to neutral what's causing the breaker to trip then? Could one cap the neutral and ground to the ground? I would be sure not to touch the welder (while plugged in) without my gloves on.

I could wire it on a metal stake and stab it in the ground.

Re: Neutral vs ground?

Where I live (Usa, ky) 3 prong 220 recepticals with 2 hot and a neutral are very common. I appreciate the concern but, TBH, I will most likely try capping the neutral and grounding the welder to it's frame. I can't imagine why there would be a problem with that. Anybody else agree or disagree?

Re: 50a breaker tripping on start up?

Thanks for the help guys. I guess that rules out the plug. Unfortunately, I don't have the tools to measure current. I'm about to open up the buzz box and check it out. If I can't find anything wrong with it, I'm going to try it at a friend's house. Anything I should look for specifically? Update: E...

Re: 50a breaker tripping on start up?

I see. Thanks for the help. The plug is new and there's really no way of checking it without breaking it. I will have a look inside of the buzz box tomorrow. You sure it's not too small of a breaker? It starts for about 1-5 seconds before tripping it. Also, it dims the lights when it's on. Idk, I'm ...

Re: 50a breaker tripping on start up?

Hmmm. I don't think I have a short. If I understand correctly, a 3 prong 220 has a neutral and two hot wires. Does it matter which hot wire goes where? I just made sure the neutral was correct.

50a breaker tripping on start up?

Hello all. I have a 110\220v AC stick welder. I planned on using it on 110v as I'm working with thin metal. However, being a cheap welder, the machine was too weak on 110v. So I got a 220v dryer plug (connected wires with electrical tape). It trips the 30a dryer breaker on startup. I tried the 50a s...

Re: Can't get a bead going? (Video included)

Now that's a 5 star answer. Thank you. I'm going to try a 220 plug. Will it be ok to use the dryer socket?

Don't worry, it was a fairly save area that I had to use for filming because it was raining. Plus, I had a fire extinguisher on hand just in case.

Re: Can't get a bead going? (Video included)

I've tried. I know, you get what you pay for... Think I should get a 220 plug? I'm thinking with it being so cheap, maybe it wasn't wired properly for 110. If it only has 220 wiring, I pretty sure the power from a 110 would be split in half. Is that correct? I would just return it but, I have someth...

Can't get a bead going? (Video included)

Total newbie here. Using 6013 on 140 amps in the video. I just got a new AC stick welder and some 1\8 electrodes. It's supposed to run 110v and 220v. I hooked up a 110 plug since I don't have a 220 atm. I tried to practice with some scrap but, I get nothing but sparks, no arc. The electrode doesn't ...
