Re: "Sandy" looking beads

Does 5356 weld different than 4043 much? Ya 4043 wets in nicer. 5356 is less forgiving in its sweet spot. But when you get it dialed it looks awesome. The faster you can weld with 4043 (less heat into the part) the less Sandy look it'll have. The thicker the aluminum the quicker it'll cool and the ...

Re: The way welds look.

Yep cj's right on. It's easier to practice outside corner mig with 3/16" or 1/4" and to get the nice weldporn outside corners on 3/16" it's just around 18 volts 180 to 190 ipm let it fill in til it breaks both edges then skooch forward smoothly about 3/8" then back 1/8" and ...

They wanted it to hinge on 2 small brackets, but there's no way it old hold plus the brackets were way off so I built a doubler and gussets. This will be really cool when it's done I'll show you guys later hopefu...

Re: Outside corners in aluminium, technique question

A big part of why I got a TIG machine (Lincoln SW200) for use in support of other hobbies and stuff that I do. One of those things would be the ability to build small custom sheetmetal enclosures for electronics and the like. I know a shear and brake are the best ways to manipulate sheetmetal stuff...

I noticed in one of your pics an aluminum flange for an NPT plug. Is there a brand of flange or bung that you prefer? I am looking to source some to have in stock for adding drains to pontoons.
I'm not sure it's whatever my work has on hand.

Thanks guys. I don't have any settings really it's just a transformer syncrowave 250. Just 7-10 on the balance. I hate having a long stick out on aluminum, don't know why. It just takes hood time and learning to read the puddle. Anyways thanks for looking!

I was working on flat T joints in school about a month ago, then worked on some vertical up and now I'm working on flat again.
