Re: Welding After Cataract Surgery

Hey CJ, It hurt to read that. Lol If 70 is really old... I guess I need to own up to that. Isn't 70 the new 50... or however that saying goes? I'll play with the different magnifications over the next several weeks and see what happens. (My garage heater failed last weekend, and it's cold out there...

Re: Welding After Cataract Surgery

It's doing fine, I see a lot clearer out of that eye. After everything is all adjusted she said welding would be a non issue. I drove after dark last night & didn't notice any halos, although the first day after looking at our LED yard light I saw a big sparkling halo. BTW I got the Light adjust...

Re: 7018 Excalibur & slag

The leads aren't too long 25' ground & maybe 35' for electrode, I've always thought the amperage was low on this welder. Suppose I could try my Thunder bolt & give it a try, I don't think I've ever ran it over 110-115 on 3/32.

It's done & painted. Can't remember how to figure the amperage, 60% of the 40-190 range. So I think it should be around 130A kind of high for 3/32 7018 maybe.

7018 Excalibur & slag

Picked up some Excalibur & the slag seems real hard to remove, a lot harder that the Hobart 7018 that I was using.
Is that the way it is?

When I first tried my hand at TIG I was using oxy/acetylene welding rod & it looked a bit like that.

I picked up one of these, much nicer cut. Bought on on sale locally, but they have nicer ones too.

I had a similar issue a few years ago, I think the torch I was using was broken someplace & it wasn't getting good gas flow or the flow was contaminated. Like you a different torch worked fine.

Don’t know how it compares to Lincoln but I just bought one and it blows away my old cheap helmet. The headgear isn’t that great but in the comments on amazon guys say you can swap it for Lincoln headgear no problem. They even give the item number for the Lincoln headgear.
