Re: Amps showing up on display while welding

Yes. But I think on some machines it affects the arc in more ways than just the voltage. Probably have to get some others to weigh in who are more knowledgeable. I was said that the voltage is used to regulate the amps on dc machines, the amps possibly are raised by using a stronger voltage (anyway...

Re: Amps showing up on display while welding

Hello I amnot confusing those but I am sorry "antistick" function is just cutting the current if the rod have stick, so it does not burn and it is easier to take it out I was confusing with the arc force, , the result of arc force is that sticking is less easy as when there is a light shor...

Yes. But I think on some machines it affects the arc in more ways than just the voltage. Probably have to get some others to weigh in who are more knowledgeable. Well it is difficult to find precise descriptions . Some say that this is only a short timed action when the arc is so short that the sti...

Re: Dig function showing up on display while welding

Then something more was going on. It wasn't from the dig setting. I said "dig". But meant hot start. Sry. AH ! OK I had a look at the manual of that welder, and there is a knob for starting amps level and another for peak , this is used to regulate pulse in tig mode, but influence also th...

Re: Amps showing up on display while welding

Josh you are right in the end we may not see it really clearly when the arc force is on, As it is just a modification of the current curve may be a sudden rise of amps can be seen but it may only take in account a few amps (not 10-15 or more ) Now it seem that arc force is defined as a temporary ra...

Then something more was going on. It wasn't from the dig setting. Hello, I suppose you feel when the dig is activated due to a short arc ON the videos He turns the "peak" or "main heat" button to 150 (last regulation, the left button regulates only the starting Amps . So you may...

Re: Dig function showing up on display while welding

Unless you have a poor or intermittent arc then I believe it only boosts the amps for a second or two. No longer. That I don't know but the graphs show only a modified curve where the amps are boosted more or less when tension is under a certain level During those 2 seconds the welder have ample ti...

Re: Dig function showing up on display while welding

Arc length plays a big part in variations of amps on the display as you weld. Yes, certainly, but do you think that once regulated for instance at 105 AMps, you weld with a short arc and the amps raise 15 amps . I think it may not work that way, all the amps above the initial regulation are due to ...

Amps showing up on display while welding

Have a look at that video from weld com https://youtu.be/bjB0I3HXIVc?t=12m40s He tries to run 6010 DC but the welder does not accept it (not enough OCV voltage) the arc stops again and again , it may restart due to the hot start feature sending the max voltage but the arc cannot be maintained well....

Re: Heat sensitive?

I just did see that one can weld 7018 3/32 at 60 65A if the metal is soon saturated with heat I tend to be afraid of lowering amps a lot, but I see well my beads deform, overheated, I wonder if DCEP, low amp 60A, could be a solution with the 6013 even if they are not intended for DCEP originally rai...

Re: Another 6010 Question.

I can't be sure about other machines, but the last open root I ran was on a miller dynasty. The arc force/dig was set at a little past 12:00 and ran like a champ, so maybe 60%? The main thing with open root is getting the stick through to the back side without poking it all the way out the other si...

video suggestion : dig function practical effect

It is about the "dig" function, and how it modify the arc behavior, how it can be regulated depending of the rod and the job at hand I am often training on thin steel, as 3/8 and even less, so the "arc force/dig function is not helping, as I had a feeling that my arc is too much invas...

Re: Heat sensitive?

Depends on the context it's used in. Your suggestion is one possibility. Another one is that it may become prone to micro cracks when exposed to heat afterwards. .3 Thank you, I wonder something about the slag My feeling is that too low heat makes a poor cooking of the slag and it does not fall eas...

What do you think? https://photos.app.goo.gl/7Zbq3h9l0W5srxyJ2 Christmas tree move. On thin metal. I stopped 1/8 soon and took 3/32. 6013. 86A (too fluid) then 75A (OK but I had to enlarge up at some point, so I tried 70A and a little slowly Is it possible that the slag is not cooked enough so it do...

Heat sensitive?

What mean 'making it heat sensitive' when welding thin steel?

Does it mean that if one use too much heat, the steel will soften and be more heat reactive for the next beads (case of square tubing for instance)?

Thank you.

Re: 7018 basic tips

I run 1/8" (3.2mm) 6013, 7014 and 7018 all about the same amperage for vertical up. 120-125 amps. About 90 degree angle to the base. Pointing up increases the chance of undercut. Some 6013 brands have a thinner flux coating, I reduce amps as needed for those. thank you, but do you reduce a lit...

Re: 7018 basic tips

Hello today I tried 3F with 6013, working weaving, smiles and triangles. I was surprised to burn the slag and have some inserted in the beads. while with 7018 ascending,I did well with 115A, with the 6013 90A was still hot for the slag, difficult to get it out. 100A was hot for the metal I wonder if...

Re: 7018 basic tips

Vertical up takes lots of practice with 7018. There's no method to use to make it drip less, or to get it to look like like it does when your welding flat. You just have to practice with all those variables. Try to be consistent and do everything the same for 1 whole day. Then the next day change t...

Re: 7018 basic tips

The drops are just extra slag dripping off. You have to learn how to see past them on vertical up. Looking a little from the side ? (I may see "normal" slag drips, or can the amount of metal be seen from the puddle?) I tried a lot to fix the drops while doing the next bead, they can be me...

Re: 7018 basic tips

Kinda late to this thread, but here's my 2 cents worth. A lot of the welding I've done I cant see squat after the hood goes down. just gotta take a look and go. When you need to turn on your bedlamp at night, you dont have to paw around, after a while your hand goes right to the switch, same with t...
