Re: Plasma table for a PrimeWeld CUT60
Confused ... wait ... Wha-? Are you saying that the height of the 225X is lower/less? Surely not, 'cause it ain't so. Thus: I take that back then...I thought it was like 1/4" shorter when I measured on the floor, but it wasn't scientific. :D GL selling the green box. You gotta get a CUT60 thou...

Sharpie tungsten grinder. Worth the money to get dead perfect, consistent results in a single step. I completely agree, one day I will probably have one. For the time being my Dremel attachment is working out ok it uses similar discs, but the one problem is it doesn't have a cutoff and when a glob ...

I had a reply to this, but decided not to send it. Suffice to say that your implication that home hobbyists don't know as much as you is utter BS. You might be a welder, but that's a far cry from being a machinist. Some of the best machinists I have had the pleasure to meet would be classified as ho...

You might be surprised and it might just fit. The connectors on the Everlast machines are pretty much industry standard. I made this quote above and need to correct myself. The torch end on my green weenie was standard, but the dinse connector is not. It is not possible to replace the dinse on the ...

Re: Machining Some Scope Rings
At work I have a 6 inch lathe with 15 in between centers and a 15 horsepower direct-drive spindle, and it won't run fast enough and doesn't have enough horsepower for some of the tooling that I run. Who's the hobbyist here? I mean you can't get carbide to run on that? :? That 15HP motor must ...

I use a couple ways. I have an attachment for my Dremel that was about $40, it uses some small diamond wheels and has a collet. I only have a collet for 3/32", which is pretty much what I use mostly. I could make my own collets to fit in it on the lathe if I want, but I use 3/32" almost ex...

Re: Plasma table for a PrimeWeld CUT60
Thanks Jerry, gonna be close...was curious if it would fit on the lower frame of my cart. Might just barely fit, depends how they measure. On the 225 the height was just a tad lower. So far no sale, still have my green weenie...had 2 people that said they wanted it but no response after...in the end...

Re: Plasma table for a PrimeWeld CUT60
Still outside working, so I'll have to keep this short. Need to mow the lawn in a bit. So I finished the plasma table this afternoon. Well about 95% of it anyway. I still need to install a couple of hooks to store the torch cable onto. Save that I'm done. Sold my Milwaukee Abrasive Cut-Off saw toda...

Agreed. That is the typical MO for my mill. However, taking light passes on AL as I was doing there seems to go just fine. With alu you should be ok, but just be warned and especially with that long end mill you were using. Most likely will be a broken end mill, they tend to snap off pretty easily....

I disagree with Buggy. Climb milling should be avoided on non-rigid mills. Spartan's mill is really not the best to climb mill with. If it handles it, go ahead. I would avoid climb milling and stick to conventional milling. I was going to mention that, as he goes back and forth, I would only mill fr...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...
Arc force can make things a lot more forgiving, but remember a lot of famously excellent stick machines like an Idealarc 250 don't even have any option for arc force or hot start. As you've noticed how 6011 and 6011 wants to excaviate a crater, sometimes cranking the arc force up, especially if you...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...
I've found if a machine will run 6010 it'll also run 6011 quite nicely, while I do prefer 6010 as I've found it's often more consistent/higher quality between brands and slightly smoother, In my experience 6011 will still run better on a 6010 friendly machine than it will on most machines that can'...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...
Even the crappiest inverters can usually run 7018 OK. I'd be interested to see what it does with cellulose rods. I had an AHP unit that ran 7018 OK, but with 1/8th 6011 at 80 amps, it would chew through 3/8ths plate like a carbon arc gouging rod. I would have to turn the amps way down to like 40, t...

I've done a similar project modifying some rings in the past. If you didn't use any cold blue, try some Oxpho-Blue from Brownell. Pretty easy to use.

So, years ago we used to go to Clark's welding supply that was really close to our shop.. They closed their doors when they were bought up by Airgas. Unfortunately this story is all too common in this area. :( I'll not walk into Mason's store again. Your story made me laugh, so typical of the guy. ...

Yeah +1 for the 6010 being a rod that will gouge as a part of its normal MO. I like that aspect of it however because I know it is penetrating well. The 6010/11 is a fast-freeze rod, as you are likely aware, and this is the reason you do the whip-n-pause thing. When you move out of the puddle or to...
