Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

Smoother than 6011 perhaps, but not smooth as butter like lo-hy or rutile rods. I wouldn't say they're "full of it"; more so a different prerogative/point of view. I haven't cut-n-etch 6010, but I suspect it would be somewhere in between shirt-circuit-MIG and spray-arc-MIG when it comes t...

Re: Should get a license or sell the business?

Did your Dad have a California contractors license? Did the work he did require he had a contractors license? IMO, there is no advantage in getting a contractors license unless the work performed requires it. You will be required to place your contractors license on your vehicles and subject to weig...

Re: PrimeWeld TIG 225 adventure begins

My sentiment precisely Alan. Look Oscar, I was setting my sights on a red box. However I just couldn't justify the cost given the context of my usage. Period. If I was able to earn some type of side income from welding such that an investment in a red box would pay for itself, then I would definite...

That doesnt surprise me one bit. I'm tellin you all, go Italian red, but nnnoooooooo I dont wanna sell my kidney on the black market to switch to Italian red everyone says  you only need one ! Re: PrimeWeld TIG 225 adventure begins

Wha-? Do tell. Who was not happy with you and for what exactly? I ask because I was told that I needed to remove the cover from my 275p every so often and clean out the dust, etc. with compressed air or else my warranty was invalid. That part I was told also. I removed the cover to snap some pics i...

and I have no plans on removing my cover. So that should sum it up rather nicely. :D I'm quite the opposite, I have to take everything apart, in fact Everlast (lugnuts specific) got mad at me for opening my green weenie and cleaning some of the spooged insulator plastic off the fan which it had wra...

Ok I had to stop watching that after a minute or two. And that was pushing it for me. Yeah, but don't say I didn't warn you, I tried to disclaim that pretty heavily. Definitely makes it into the Top-10 of the worst ideas I have heard this year. Sheesh! No argument from me. hehehe Shows the in...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

The gouging is normal for 6010. Its part of the arc and its characteristic. One just has to work it and use it to their advantage to get really good (deep) fusion between the two parts. That makes sense, but makes me ponder...I'm fairly new to 6010, I haven't run it until recently. I have seen peop...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

As a wrap-up on this thread, my observation on the Primeweld's ability to weld various flavors of electrodes is pretty good after some of the testing I've done. The machine does seem to be able to handle most all electrodes, to my surprise, but I wouldn't say ideal for someone in need of the best st...

Re: PrimeWeld TIG 225 adventure begins

Here's another thing about the Primeweld, this is very annoying, but it shows the inside of the welder. The guy doesn't know what he's doing in regard to electricity and seems to be an accident waiting for a time to happen. This is one of the most annoying videos and it's got the CNC running in the ...

Re: PrimeWeld TIG 225 adventure begins

To speak openly I don't even remember the stinger that came with my 275p. I've ran just too-many beads with it since then. I think I am still using the original ground clamp that was supplied with it, which looks identical to the one that comes with the 225X. Copper jaws and copper wire mesh betwee...

Not too bad for an $800 box that is not even purported to run 6010 or 7018. ;)

Thanks for posting.

Re: PrimeWeld TIG 225 adventure begins

Anyway, the results. The 225X can run a 6010 bead without issue. The "happy noise" I was getting from it was well within the ballpark of what I am accustomed to; Gotta love that 7018, slag is already lifting off! 8-) I chalked up the difference to the electrode holder. I mean that *does* ...

Re: PrimeWeld TIG 225 adventure begins

Sure as hell felt weird to not need to bother with selecting the SMAW mode that you want to be in, either E6010 or otherwise Given that I would expect it to run 6010 better on the green weenie. It is spec'd to run it. :) You have hot start stick, % hot start and arc force on it with a cellulose mod...

Re: PrimeWeld TIG 225 adventure begins

The max output amperage in SMAW mode on 110V is reportedly 120A. If that's the case, how would you run a 7018 rod? You'd could run a 3/32" 7018 at about 90-95 amps, that *MIGHT* work on a 30 amp 120v, but I honestly don't even have that in my house, all of my 120v circuits are 20 or 15 amps AF...

Re: die grinders and cut off tool favorites?

I’ve had to many close calls to hate the new safeties. They call them near misses now. Thought I hated them at first but now, I’ll make new guys use them, and flag the old guys when they don’t. Josh, I've had them work against me. Using a die grinder, lift up slightly and have the paddle locked, th...

Re: PrimeWeld TIG 225 adventure begins

Oh and the numbers on the label on the back of the 225X appear to match those in the manual, at least from a quick glance. Yes, they kind of do, but it doesn't tell you exactly what 34 amps is for tig on 240v, and even despite that they tell you to use a 50 amp circuit. That actually makes sense as...

Thanks! I'm doing my best 8-) Where are you in Silicon Valley? I'm curious which local welding store you use. I go to Madco/Praxair on Old Middlefield up in Mountain View, but they seem to be going downhill. I need to get gas soon and will continue using them. I was just there and was quoted $49.80...

Re: PrimeWeld TIG 225 adventure begins

So this is interesting: specifications 2.jpg On 110V, the 225X maxes out at 120A but can draw a max input current of 46.3A when in SMAW mode. And they give you a pig tail with a 5-15 plug on it, that's a 15 amp plug? The green box I have maxes out at 200A, but can only run on 220/240V. Duty ...

Did a bit more playing around today. My Lincoln Fleetweld 180 6011 runs way better than this cheap 6010 I got off ebay. :x 6010: (pretty fugly, all at 95 amps) http://traditionaltoolworks.com/images/wtat-6010-wire-wheeled.jpg 6010 root: (95 amps) http://traditionaltoolworks.com/images/wtat-6010-root...

Re: PrimeWeld TIG 225 adventure begins

Yeah, I've gone through all that in the manual, but the problem is they don't tell you that 34 amps is Imax on 220v for tig, they do list it, but without seeing the label, all bets off, IMO. At least it was kind of agreed to previously here that the label was the definitive number.

Jerry, This probably won't help you out much, but is a fair display of my crappy stick welding... :D This is using my counterfeit 6010 rod I bought off ebay.
