Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...
I need to try mine again on stick welding. I've got a few 6010, but have low expectations.

Re: Cannot see the bead when stick welding
Try looking right behind the arc, not at the arc. You want to focus your attention on the weld pool, the molten metal.
If you can't see the weld pool because of the swirling mess of slag, then read up on drag angle and finding the right amperage for the size 7018 you are running.
Good luck!

I watched your video when it was posted. I had no idea what you were doing, but expected it would be explained soon enough.
Now I know. Quite the tinkerer I see.

I'd love to help, but I'm pretty sure I could warp 1" plate with a 1/4" tack. I'll follow along to learn what I can.

I've seen welding done off scoop batteries underground, but that's over 100V, using a small box of resistors called a bonder.sbaker56 wrote:That seems cheap for the batteries alone, wonder if you could weld with them

BillEDee, someday when you want to try a nice helmet, take a road trip and stop in. You can also take a test drive on a Dynasty at the same time. I only have a 1.50 cheater in mine, but if you've got a cheater lens bring it along. Hi Buggy, do appreciate the invite and will take you up on it. I've ...

Eventually you'll just acquire everything; it's just the nature of the game. Indeed I will, at least that is my plan. My plan is probably not like other people, I strive for a complete shop in the end, and that goes for woodworking, metalworking, blacksmithing, leather and even stained glass. I str...

Re: Welding helmets with better vision
Like Spartan, I'm in the 9-10 range there. I go light enough that I can see where I'm headed, without being bright enough to bother me. Seeing spots afterwards is probably a good metric of judging too much light getting through. Modern quality helmets filter IR and UV in separate layers for safety. ...

I'll look at the YouTube link again. Thanks.
I welded some last night. As I was putting things away I saw the EzDabr in the drawer with my tungsten. I forgot it was there.

I've got a few 4.5" grinders. A Porter Cable from Lowes is worst of the bunch. Tool Barn from Rural King is better. Bauer from Harbor Freight is doing great so far. DeWalt has seen a crap load of use and cord damage is only wear. 20V DeWalt is nice. Makita die grinder is sounding funny after 25...

I put together a bunch of the 1.5" tubes a few days ago. I feel they seal better than the shipping tubes so it should help some. I'm considering the desiccant packs as well. Did you glue those in DougW?

I have a Miller digital Elite helmet, for the life of me I can’t find a setting where I can see what I am welding. All I can see is the arc, I can’t see the two pieces I’m welding, can’t see the puddle it’s a struggle. I’ve tried getting as close as possible, changing the setting and getting a chea...

Ok guys. There is some very good stuff here that I need to read again after getting some sleep. I'm learning stuff that I didn't know I needed to know. I never thought it was possible to have too much gas coverage. I see more aluminum practice in the near future.
Thanks.
Thanks.
