Have you heard of Camphor?

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/YtpRaK3AW7Q

Does anyone know if perhaps this works inside a MIG, or do the oils cause issues with the weld, or the machine? Welding wire rusted inside my machine last year due to humidity levels in the garage.

Re: TIG sleeve twist

You could try to build up the Inner section with some tape or some silicon tube sliced in half or the right size o-ring to give it a tighter fit. You might need the tiniest bit of dish soap to get it on but once it dries it should be a pretty solid fit. I'm probably going to have to try something l...

Re: TIG sleeve twist

If you’re talking about the corrugated sleeve spinning in your hand, then it’s a case of the fitment has lost its “grip”. After time and usage, this sleeve can become loose. You could try a bit of high temp tape at the top of the tube to the torch handle. That might get you by. Yes, that's exactly ...

I mean that would be fine, if it were my equipment, but this is the shop welder. I bought a CK worldwide for my own machine at home.

TIG sleeve twist

I learned to TIG in the early 2000's on the old transformer style machines at a vocational school. Once I left school, I can count on one hand the number of times I TIG welded up until about 2016 when I got my own machine. I've never encountered this issue before and up until last year, I never had ...

Re: Electric shock hazard from Tig electrode

Might sound dumb, but watch out for moisture. I have been electrocuted and electrocuted an apprentice once, due to sweat. Watch where you're making contact with the grounded area/part and make sure it's dry.

Re: purge plugs

I've not had to attempt to purge anything since school when I was doing a 6G certification test and I was never able to submit a test because it kept sugaring inside. They were attempting to duct tape a hose to my piece. I've always wondered how much gas loss should be expected when doing a p...

Re: Ornamental copper welding help

Guy at work keeps asking me to tig weld his cymbals. I keep telling him every single video or forum blurb I've seen about it says it's a terrible idea and he's better off cutting the cracks out of the edge, or drilling the cracks out of the center, but he keeps asking, so I finally told him I'd take...

Re: Ornamental copper welding help

That's really cool looking. You make it sound so casual how you get the colors, and maybe you just had a happy accident, but it does take some experience to get some positive looking flame coloring on copper. I know from experience. It's extremely easy to overheat it and just get a sickly brownish g...

Re: Can't see!

Yeah, when I tell people I have trouble seeing, people usually assume it's a glasses thing. I had Lasik though and my eyes are great for focus, it's a lighting issue. The welding area in my shop has about half the lights out (ballasts, not bulbs), and the ones that are working are 15' in the air, wh...

Re: Not getting gas.

Ok, so it was a bad hose on the torch, as suggested by the person above. (mrwhoopie) I had to get a CK Worldwide QDGAP Quick Connect 5/8" Adapter Plug, a CK Worldwide SL2-35 Gas Cooled Safe Loc 50mm Dinse, and went with the CK17-12-RSF RG Super Flex torch. The whole setup cost me about $200 and...

Re: Not getting gas.

I have an AHP AlphaTIG 200SX. I had a similar problem and thought I was losing my mind. After going through all the usual stuff, I noticed a slight disturbance of the braid covering on the torch lead right where it exited the the fitting at the front of the welder. Turns out I had unknowingly bumpe...

Re: Not getting gas.

So, I took the air nozzle and blew air up through the hose where it connects to the machine and it blew clear out the torch head. So now I get to take the machine apart I guess. What a hoot that should be.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Well, I took the whole head of the torch apart. I guess I need to take the torch itself apart. I will try blowing air up in there.

Not getting gas.

I have an AHP 2016 TIG welder. I don't know what people's opinions are of this unit. Whatever forum I was using back then, I remember people being very excited about these when they initially came out (2014 I think) because they were affordable, good quality, and the company seem to be listening to ...

Re: Sharpening tungsten

I didn't realize how important tungsten sharpening was until I watched Jodi's video. I was never taught any of this at the vocational school where I learned to TIG 20+ years ago, where we'd just use a bench grinder. I'm pretty disappointed with the offerings for TIG sharpeners. The cheaper ones seem...

Hello, everyone.

Hello, I've been watching Jodi's videos for well over a decade. I can't remember when I first started, but I'm glad he's done so well for himself, and I hope given his recent news he is able to keep in good health. I started welding around 2002 when I took some adult courses at a (then) local vocati...
