Re: Crud in the puddle when adding filler.

IF you cant identify the source of contamination , You might just have a gas shielding issue. With AC balance set to 65, you should see quite a wide band of cleaning action "etching" along both sides of the bead. there is hardly evidence of cleaning action . then when you add rod, it distu...

Re: Contaminated Argon questions.

I have received tons of emails . mostly from folks who use the owner size bottles. Also, I remember a shutdown I worked about 20 years ago when whiskers on the electrodes was a problem. moisture in the argon tank was the culprit. I also get lots of emails from people who are given the wrong gas. the...

Re: Aluminum mig overhead

spray transfer is just the way aluminum mig works. but it cools so quickly that its not the same issue with the puddle being too hot and fluid as with steel for welding overhead. the rules of thumb for mig welding aluminum are the same as for flat or horizontal...push the puddle whenever possible to...

Re: Tungsten erosion

if i understood right, you are using 75/25 argon/co2?

then thats the problem. you need pure argon. that co2 is eatin your tungsten.

best of luck,

Re: How's about an update on the 256

so far so good on the powerpro 256. i have not used the plasma cutter function very much other than to test it out on a few cuts. Tig works really good. stick works good too. i do not like the torch or pedal much. thats putting it mildly. I have a different pedal and torch on my 250ex and it makes a...

Re: tig welding super rusty steel

for what you are doing, sandblasting with sand is probably a good option. sand wont hurt the welds and is probably better than aluminum oxide blast media for welding over. it wont weld as clean as if it was ground to shiny bright metal but that seems kinda impractical from your description. good luc...

Re: quick ?

Here is one simple way to narrow the frost... use a smaller cup and less gas flow. the frost will only go where the gas shielding is. this is where the old school , non gas lens collet bodies can help too. try a #6 with only about 13-15 cfh its a tight rope because you need enough shielding gas to g...

Re: Why Am I Getting Shocked???

i am not an electrician, but the instruction manual probably has a step for driving a copper rod in the ground to make sure the frame of the machine is properly grounded to prevent high frequency from bleeding out everywhere... that might be the problem.
