I've never heard of this before and I've tried it with no luck.

AC = aluminum and magnesium
You can also do steel with aluminum bronze wire in AC mode
Or a cast steel (If i recall correctly) with aluminum bronze in AC mode

Same story around Chicago. A few mig-dog production jobs for $14 an hour and very few others jobs for more skilled workers. My union boilermaker buddy is working for me for the next few days because they are all out of work and the industrial workplaces are all going non-union so it looks grim arou...

it's not a bad idea and i have thought about it, but welding too close to a magnet will crack them.

Converting bandsaw to metal ? Or Portaband

Found a lot of craftsmans, and delta bandsaws on CL lately for a few hundred. Wondering if any of you guys have converted them to metal bandsaws with speeds of under 100FPM. I'd like it to be able to do steel/aluminum and mild if possible. Or my other thought was waiting for a deep throat porta band...

angle iron supports in place of the stock flatsides clamp will hold the thin wall tube Tried it on the bandsaw and that jaw isn't large enough to get a piece of angle in the front and back. The rage has a V groove but still ended up making it a little oblong. Or spit out. So i chose oblong lol What...

Backpurge...mild steel? Any benefits?

Just doing some reading online the other day about headers and car stuff. There are people that swear by back purging mild steel. I don't see a reason for it, but wondering if there is some good reason some people swear by it for pipe and tube welding

Have you tried a different collet?
Gas should be at least 25cfh. How far is your tungsten stick out? It could be too close or too far away.

The grey ball/snot from what I have noticed is mostly gas related. Not enough gas coverage and I haven't figured out if it's also a combination of dirty metal too.
