Re: Welding used gas tank

Pour a cup of vinegar & half a box of baking soda in the tank, in a minute it'll be full of co2, put cap on loosely & rotate tank so liquid is not where you wanna weld. Rinse out the tank when you're done, , , ,

Re: Covering Your TIG Torch Hoses

The original leads for my ta185 tig were the power lead & the gas. A few times I melted the gas line (not all the way through tho). This setup was stiff & clunky, the two were zip-tied together & caught on everything. I replaced it with a 'superflex' lead. Never burnt it but I was wearin...

My nephew, (an electrician), was working on a condo project where they changed brands/model #s/whatever of air conditioner units. There was a (prolly at least 100 lb.) pallet of 24"x2"x1½"x 12 gauge brackets with thinly electroplated galvanize on them headed for the dumpster. They all...

I have a number of vicegrips but the most used is my pair of "6ln". Had/have the same pair for 35-40 years, use 'em more than any 'plier' type I own. (ie vice grips-channel locks-pliers-etc)

Re: Tig Issues From a Newbie

I tried turning the amperage down to 80 amps and it was hard to start and maintain a puddle./quote] This screams arc length to me. Even if 80 is too low to immediately make a puddle, getting started and keeping a puddle should not be an issue once the metal is hot. If I am mistaken about how much a...

Since I got a 'deep throat' Milwakuee portaband, I rarely use my abrasive chop saw (Ryobi 14" 35 yr old almost all aluminium saw), or my handheld hacksaws either!!

First was a Miller (AC only) Thunderbolt. Got it used in the early '70's, still have it. Still have a sealed 50lb can of rod that came with it. Copper wound, weighs a ton! Not used for 10+- years.

New to Me Tig Cooler

I bought a (used) TA 185 welder this weekend, gonna be for my nephew. I have one already I bought new about 8 years ago, love it! Anyways, I also bought a 'Weldtec' torch cooler that included a Weldtec 20 water cooled torch & 25' leads. The torch came with a gas lens (1/8" tungsten) & #...

Re: Footpedal issue when tig welding

Agree with Noddybrian about the resistance value being a likely culprit. Unfortunately SSC pedals may not be very easy to take apart and reassemble. They're easy to take apart, a bit of maneuvering to re-assemble, , , , Pivot pins are 'spring loaded' push in & seperate the 2 halves. Warning! Re...

When I 1st got my welder, about every other time I used it, I broke the cup. I would go & buy 1 & promptly break it 2nd time I (tried) welding. Bought 6 of 'em, & still have 5 left in like 4 - 5 years, or more, go figure.

Re: Chose rod diameter/Amperage

My brother has a (really) old P&H ac buzzbox, they solved the problem, kinda. a series of holes at each amp setting, you stick the 'fluxless' end of the rod in the hole, you want the rod that just fits in that hole/setting, , , , simple.
