Re: Which brand of cutting torch to buy

I have (2) Victor J-27 "aircraft" torches and a whole bunch of tips, 2 huge WWII era 'Rego' gauges with brass diaphragms. Regos rebuilt in the early '70's, still perfect. The Victor gauges (both) died years ago. One torch is old, other is really old, , , the 1st J-27 my brother gave me (ea...

I have a Milwaukee 'deep throat' I leave on my base most of the time. I have a 'regular throated' (?) one I dont use as much anymore. A small piece if cutoff metal jammed in between the blade & base, broke the blade. (<- a new, sharp one, can you weld them back together? I have TA 185 tig welder...

Trying to Weld Razor Blades

I have a TA Arcmaster 185 tig welder. I have tried welding razor blades a few times but every time, the welder after a few seconds gives a surge of current & I blow a hole through the blades. No matter how low/hi the current is set. Tried blades on steel table, on aluminium plate, on copper plat...

Re: Gasoline, chemicals, how?

What you are talking about is called a hot tap in the trades. Gas company here had (still have for occaisional use) a special valve they would weld on the gas main. Flowing gas carrys away the heat, they had to really crank up the heat (ox/acet) to make their welds. Had a local welder who among oth...

Not as a welder, but, I worked only 2 Sundays in 40 years as an equipment operator, once for 1/2 a day & once for 12 hours.

(made enough on that 12 hr shift to buy a new lc ws BIG big screen tv, when they were really expensive!)

Other than 'hovering' the mouse over a thread to see a short bit about it, I would leave things alone. Change for improvement is fine, change for the sake of change is not. Plus, new progs are never right at the begining, and not for a long while after. These 'programmers' see it as "Theres alw...

Anyone have a pic of the insides of an SSC pedal? I believe the top comes off by pushing the spring loaded pins on either side. I didnt take pics, but it takes a LOT longer to put back together than takin' 'em apart! My TA 185 came with an SSC pedal, only problem is its too light, slides around too...

"Till you get it right!"

What happens to me sometimes is, when practicing, I will lay down really nice beads (tig), go eat lunch (or whatever) come back & be unable to do anything right. Only difference is, its two hours later, didnt even turn the machine off. Frustrating.

I worked for 'Kiewit' (PKS) on a power plant. Their program was "We do not pay you to talk on your phone here, period", Getting caught came with a good likelihood of getting two checks at noon. I worked on a railroad project where some workers brought two phones or extra batteries so they ...

Re: What is the best way to check a TIG torch for a gas leak

Run a bead to get it warm, not too hot, push tungsten in, stretch a balloon over the cup, (a condom would work as well!!), step on the pedal once or twice to inflate the balloon/whatever. If it deflates quickly, yes, you have a major leak, and you can gauge just how bad it is. You can dip the torch ...
