Re: Man Cave / Money Pit

I've decided that climbing up and down ladders to get on to the roof for maintenance sucks. So, I've decided to make a set of stairs to get up there, from inside the building. ;) I looked into the cost of roof hatches and they are pricey. $3000 + I'm going to re-purpose a deep freezer in order to fa...

Re: Metal Supply

I normally buy my metal from the recyclers.
Lately, I visit the metal recycle bin at work.

I'm constantly amazed at what industry throws away.
I collect my metal over time and usually for free.

Man Cave / Money Pit

The garage was full and I need some space for my projects. So... I bought three commercial lots and 5000 square feet of derelict building. The roof leaks, it has a dirt floor, one wall is missing and it's full of stuff. I've got my work cut out for me, but with any luck, it will serve its pur...

Re: Let's talk Safety Shoes...

For the last 14 years, I've been given a pair of Dakota Industrial Oxfords each year. They have all of the safety ratings for my company's safety department. I like them and I can get 4-5 years from one pair of shoes. They are super comfortable and extra wide. http://www.marks.com/shop/en/marks-mark...

Re: Oxy-Acetylene Hoses??

I store my gear in a shed when not in use. (Too many accidents waiting to happen.) If you are in your mid-seventies, how many more years do you estimate to be welding? When I was still working, I didn't worry about my Oxy-acetylene hoses, I just replaced them if started looking oxidized or dirty. Bu...

Re: Yet another welding helmet question.

Many years ago, I bought an inexpensive $30 Jackson helmet with 4X5 lens. Then, a few years ago, I upgraded it when I found an Arc One auto dark module in the bargain bin for $20 at my local welding supply. It was missing the 5 Mohm control pot, so I ordered one from a local electronics supplier. I ...

If I were going to build an inexpensive CNC plasma table, I'd build it from scratch. The free LinuxCNC program has been around for a long time. Re: Input power phase's.

How much do you really want to know? Most 3 phase distribution is for industrial purposes. 3 phase is more efficient in electrical motors as it allows 3 magnetic pushes per revolution. 3 phase motors are easier to reverse, simply by changing the phase rotation sequence. http://waterheatertimer.org/H...

Remote starter for SA-200

I often wake up from a dream with these crazy inventive ideas in my head. I write them down right away, so I don't forget them. Re: Voltage/current curves

I like the fact that the drive rollers are interchangeable with my Millermatic 210 shop machines. It came with .045" flux core rollers and I typically use .035" solid core rollers on my shop machines. So, I borrowed the rollers from one of my Millermatic 210s to fit the suitcase machine. T...
