Re: Hi from Alberta, Canada

I live an hour from each of you guys.
I work in Calgary in the simulation business.
I've been at it for 30+ years. Welding is my hobby.

Re: Question for noobs, pros and all inbetween or above!

Getting the angle right is important. Try doing it with flippers... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aE4Dtl2IBJo What would you consider to be the most important aspects of welding, across all the process? I would put 'angles' as my number one, because no matter with SMAW, GTAW, GMAW or what ever, co...

I would speculate that the "Combo" units were designed for the hobby enthusiast.
Industrial operations would have dedicated machines for each work station.

Re: Let's see pics of your home shop

The garage was full of tools, no space for WerkSpace
so, I bought a mobile shop and a shop for the mobile.

$1500 for the mobile + $500 for the new diesel engine.
$50,000 for the shop + lots of money to fix it all up.

Re: Which way to go: Mig/Tig or AC Tig/Plasma?

If you are starting out, option #1 is your best bet. MIG is easy to learn and you can make a few bucks with it. Upgrade your equipment as the money starts flowing in . Re: Overheads and Wandering eyes causing me trouble.

This should do the trick. http://www.usaweld.com/Optrel-Leather-Neck-and-Back-Protector-p/k5932.htm I noticed while doing some SMAW in class that my eyes tend to wander and, despite trying to focus, I eventually wind up looking at the inside of my helmet. Re: 2002 Honda Gas ZR-10 Red D Arc

Try a manual pump 'spray bottle' full of gasoline. (old Windex bottle, etc.) - Remove the air filter and spray some gasoline into the air intake. - Try to start the engine. - If it starts and runs for a few seconds, keep spraying gasoline into the air intake a bit at a time. If this works, then you ...

Re: SA 200 windings

I wouldn't get too hung up on the "all copper winding" thing. They're all DC generators and that's what makes them so smooth. Mine was converted to propane and it has a magneto for the ignition. If the battery, alternator or starter fails, it can be started with the manual crank handle. ht...

Re: DIY "pocket stove" for boats/campers

I agree... The same thing is true for a petroleum based engine. Many people have been killed from exhaust fumes. Gasoline fumes are harmful, even without combustion. Perhaps redundant, but please do check out the 'Toxic hazrds' section in the docs above when building and using a wood-gas generator. ...
