Re: Making a home-made "gas lens" using standard consumables

Hi, sorry for the inexperienced question.....what is a gas lens on a Tig torch and what does it actually do? :?
I've done some tigging in the past but now use a plasma welder and lately, having just bought a 200 amp DC hobby welder, want to get into some scratch tig for odd jobs etc.

Re: G3500 Cast Iron

Hi, just my experience with welding cast iron......I use a Multiplaz 3500 plasma welder and I have welded cast iron with plain steel welding rods very successfully, that is to say you don't need to have any special welding rods or procedure or even a preheat or a slow cool down. I think the weld zon...

Hi., I've got one of those outfits, use it all the time now and haven't used my conventional welding gear since I bought it three years ago. It isn't cheap, but it doesn't use any consumables while it's not being used like you get with Mig or Tig that use Argon in rented bottles....no bottle or any ...

Re: Multiplaz consumable items service life

Hi, I hadn't thought of that.....it makes sense though.....most of my "work" is smallish jobs, I bought the unit because I liked the idea of plug in and fire away etc, no bottle gas to worry about. In the first photo of the cutting nozzle doing it's thing, the tiny flame would appear to do...

Re: Multiplaz consumable items service life

Wether or not we'll be able to enjoy the advances is up to the industry, but more so the potential users, who must look beyond the conventional approach to multi method welding and cutting. I think there is a huge need for a mini version of the Multiplaz, something that will allow finer work than th...

Re: Multiplaz consumable items service life

Hi, in terms of efficiency, that would be determined by the output derived from the input to achieve the output. That means if you were planning a home heating system and the plasma/water heating path was the one of choice, you might be using more current to produce the high plasma temperature for a...

Hi, the similarities are that the two methods use hydrogen, which in the Multiplaz unit is derived from the H2O....the Oxygen burning off at disassociation in the arc, but the Hydrogen undergoes the same splitting into H2 and Hi etc due to the arc.....same process, one has two tungsten electrodes an...

Hi, it is a known fact that the majority of welding fumes comes from the materials and coatings of the object being welded. In most cases, steel will have some foreign matter adhering to it, and this can be oily residue from the manufacturing or storing process, IE oil and/or paint based identity ma...

Hi all.....has anyone ever heard of the atomic hydrogen torch, or to give it it's real name The Langmuir Process invented in the 1920's. Having read a lot about the origins of the invention and how it works, I have to come to the conclusion that the Multiplaz 3500 is an Atomic Hydrogen Torch reboote...

Hi, if all you want to do is cut stainless you are wasting your time....you need to get a hands on trialing to decide if it's for you. The unit does not have the power or capability of a regular Plasma cutter with compressed air, it is mainly a welder that can do some cutting when needed. It can cut...

I have to beg to differ on the first weld type.....when they teach you to swim you don't get in at the deep end ....period. Same as for Tig welding......learn to Tig mild steel and once you have the knack you go on to bigger and better things, like stainless and ally.....maybe some cast iron too if ...

Hi all, just a few words to put into perspective the actual phrase or title Welder, and for that matter a welding business. If you're a welder, it means you just weld what is put in front of you, no fabricating parts or making parts with other machinery or preparing parts to allow welding to take pl...

Hi, LOL....a toe clamp....sounds like a medieval torture device that goes with the thumb screw. Now, that device will be handy for all those large area surfacing jobs where a vice doesn't open enough or the plate is too big for any vice, or any piece of material that needs a surface machining...

Hi Werkspace, I quite agree with the enclosed space ability, during the Winter I frequently do welding, with the Multiplaz, inside the workshop with the door down. On one job that had a lot of contaminants like paint and oily residue, I had to use a fan to blow the fumes away with the door open, whi...

Hi all, one of the jobs I did some months ago was to butt weld an end onto a draw bar for my milling machine. The end, which was 7/16 UNF thread had stretched and also partly stripped the threads, so I cut 50mm off of the end of the draw bar, bought a hi tensile steel hex bolt and cut it in half and...

Hi, this is a worry, although it doesn't bother me as I bought the outfit purely for the welding function. Re: Using a TIG to solder

Hi, what you are doing is using the arc to just heat the job, and as long as you keep it moving it will probably have the same effect as an Oxy/Acc torch. There probably would be a saving if you already have the Tig outfit and Argon, and didn't want to invest further in Oxy/Acc.....you still would h...
