Re: Question On Mixing Helium With Argon!

Found this thru a Google search. Does this mean that since Argon and Helium are very close in numbers a flowmeter for Argon would work for Helium? I would venture to say that is incorrect, in general. That might be specific for that Dartmouth RTA thing, but look at this Miller flowmeter. Not that 1...

Re: Tig corner joints on 18 Gauge stainless

To add to what Oscar suggested, I'd also suggest using a flanged return type joint as opposed to an edge to edge type.

Then the tank will be bullet proof and you could also use Cleco fasteners for assembly.

Re: 4130 plate finish

There is some 4130 tube coming manufactured in China; it's quite likely that plate could also originate from there. In the days when 4130 was all manufactured in the US, there were often variations in surface finish depending on the manufacturer. The tube or plate usually had manufacturer identifica...

I agree completely. All I was suggesting was that we choose our jokes carefully. It's an area where I catch myself being competitive, and I have to police myself carefully to not put up something that could sound racist or otherwise potentially offensive to any of our members. Anyone know anything about a l-tec heliarc 306 hf? Comes complete with cooler, torch, stick leads and cart. Looks nice but are these reliable? Have a read through the links here. http://www.google.com/search?q=L-tec+Heliarc+306+HF+TIG+welder&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&client=firefox-a&a...

Re: I thought buying another welder would be "easier"!......

My 0.02c ..........forget the Aircrafter and Syncrowave 300 for age and reliability reasons. If you don't go the new inverter route, I'd lean towards the Lincoln square wave 275 with cooler for $1500 or the Syncrowave 250 , then Idealarc 300/300 as second option. In both cases, they should be comple...

Have you been using this 2% on other jobs with no worries or is this the first usage ? Have you tried it on some material that you know welds OK with no problem ? You're not welding over something that was previously MIG'd ? Just for shits and grins, try another tungsten, from another packet, even a...

Re: welding bushings for shafts

Wrapping brass shim around pins where they go through bushes / holes in plates can work to take up the clearance and hold things in alignment while tacking.

It doesn't hurt to apply a light smear of anti-seize to the surfaces.

Re: Thoughts on a Lincoln Square Wave TIG 300

I've used a Square Wave TIG 355 and really liked it and also the Idealarc 300/300. My reservation about the machine you are looking at is you can't try it out to see if all systems are functioning correctly. Being a cynical barsteward, I'd also wonder why a fully functioning machine like that doesn'...

Re: Anyway to get AL Oxide Off Rod

I have a pound of 4043 that I bought from a retired boilermaker that is every bit of 20 years old and they weld better than some brand new stuff I got from the LWS. I can only assume it's because they were probably made here instead of china. My machine has auto set balance too but I run it a littl...
