Re: Tornado proof Adirondack chairs

They are going to be feature pieces in a public space, and have been to the finish department. They are designed to oxidize and take on a patina as time goes on. You are right about the ipe, those slats weigh about 60 pounds by themselves. The body, several hundred. What is ipe? I didn't know eithe...

Re: OT: Any guitar players or musicians here?

Everybody's favorite drummer joke around the studio I worked at was "What do you call a guy that hangs around with musicians?" "A drummer"

That was first told at the studio by a drummer, also.

Re: OT: Any guitar players or musicians here?

Fooled around with guitar years ago. Wasn't really any good at it. Much better as a live sound and recording engineer. Worked in a studio and had a live sound business for a while. Love music. Listen a lot. Mostly classic country.

Re: Broken wire from transformer to positive lead.

I got the split bolts and No-ox-id. Do I put the no-ox-id on the wires FIRST and then clamp them in the split bolt or clamp them first and grease over the connection? Put it one the conductors first, then reef down the split-bolt and put a light coating over it, to just make sure the wires are cove...

Hard to argue with the pipeliner for a solid backup helmet. Another passive one I've always liked is the Huntsman with the flip-up window. For a passive helmet, I run a Shade 10.

I think this may be the video you're thinking of:

There's also a Part 2 vid of the "pig weld", but I think this is the one with the most SiBr work.

You sure that's not a steel nut contained in the casting? Kinda looks that way. Either way, I'd be tempted to Heli-Coil it, I think.

If I remember correctly (always a maybe) welding for ship construction began to be really widespread with the introduction of the Liberty Ships. That was also the beginning of "modular" construction for ships.

Yep, breakers can go bad after a while. I had the same problem with my Lincoln SP-135+ at a place I used to live. 20 amp breaker would keep blowing after a very short time. Put in a new breaker and all was well.

Re: Butt welding thin wall steel tubing

I like the idea of sleeving the joint, but my preference would be to cut a small longitudinal slit out of the sleeve so it'll compress and fit inside the tubing. Then leave a small gap between the pieces of pipe. It'll be an open root joint with a backing strip. Should work well.

Re: Decorative railing job

Thirty-some-odd years ago, I worked at a custom boatyard that built pontoon houseboats. Deck rail was an option. We had a price/foot. I don't remember what it was, but considering that we could build a 20' length of rail in less than 20 minutes, including cutting the pickets...it was definitely a mo...

I'm running a Miller Digital right now, but I had the chance to try out an Optrel VegaView 2.5 at Fabtech last year and was highly impressed. If you have a Hypertherm system, you can go here and download the manual for the machine. The manuals have a "cut chart" that recommends setting and cut speeds for various thickness metals. https://www.hypertherm.com/en-US/customer-support/documents-library/ I would presume that other manu...

Haven't watched an NFL game in nigh unto 20 years. Don't guess I will today either. I just can't muster up any excitement for any sport involving 2 teams and a ball. But, if you can put an engine in it and race it, I'll generally watch.
