Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Great job Sam! I know you like bells and whistles...did you pulse these? You got great color. No, these guys are anti pulse lol. I welded 1/2-5/8" at a time, mainly because that outer shell is 0.020-0.030" thick in some places. Monster 16 nozzle at 40-45cfh. I don't remember if I included...

Getting the hang of these exhaust flex sections! 3" 304, backpurge at 7cfh, welded at 90a w/ 1/16"308L. Pictures arranged chronologically from out of the bag to welded, for those of you who have never had the unfortunate pleasure of welding one! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170418/86...

If it's AlcoTec rod just throw it away. It should all disappear. I hate it.

stainless will not TIG weld to aluminum
Actually that's not true [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY] we regularly do it at work to listen to the noises it makes as it cools when we're bored!

Re: Using 309L for contamination

I am a self-learning hobby welder. In between practice beads, I weld bits of scrap together and make junk. IMG_20170305_112130_028.jpg I was trying to weld a section of nail to a piece of hrs using er70s2. It started hissing and spitting and would not join. I don't know what the nail is made of but...

Re: Cup Size???

I had an instance where I was plugging some holes in an aluminum rad tank with some 1.2 x 18mm diam discs into the hole from a 20mm tube, which had been hit with a 90 deg counter sink to locate the disc. Using a #6 cup with a gas lens was a PITA, always burning the disc back, and this was being don...

Re: Arc force for tig?

Set it to 0. I don't know if they ever offered an explanation in the manual, but however they have it wired, it changes the behavior of the TIG arc in an undesirable way, probably based on OCV? That's just a guess though.

Hahaha. now that we settled that  Do you know if you have to repassivate stainless after any welding regardless? I am a new welder, looking to get into a career in some type of welding, I have learned all process and am pretty decent( can always use more practice though) my question though is what type of welding is in high demand and where can I get the best pay? Are you at Holtec? I've been told that place is ridiculously difficult to get hired on at. I applied once, never heard back from them, then moved on. No, I'm at a shop in Etna doing architectural furniture. Currently on a massive shelving project for a major retailer. All stainless, all a pain in t...

Re: what tungsten is best for aluminium welding

Like I said, I'm sure within the recommended range, it's fine, but 2%La has held up better when exceeding it. Zircononiated tungsten held up better on the Syncrowave at 310 than any of them actually, but that was a fellow welders personal stash. The company supplies La/Th/Pure for us to use. Sent f...

Re: what tungsten is best for aluminium welding

Well, I never tried letting a robot do my welding for me and I only use 3/32" as I rarely need to go above 200 amps on the stuff I build but I've built a lot of stuff with E3 and it works great for me. Don't know what to say to that, could get into one of those "my dad is stronger than yo...
