Re: Steam pipe manifold construction
Im not saying it doesn't have its purpose, because it does, its just not something I personally would do. Steam pipe definitely would retain thermal energy much better than thin wall stainless or steel tubing, but as Steve said, its heavy! And I know they are used the world over, I just giggle at th...

Re: Argon Tank Empty?
He's not saying that there is a hole leading to the outside friend, rather he's saying that steel is porous enough that water/moisture can work its way through the steel using capillary attraction at any pressure. He can get crazy technical with this (believe me, I know, its lead to some interesting...

Re: Wire wheel bench grinder cleaning
I'm not going to Google that, but if I had to venture a guess I would say its about Phosgene Gas? We talked about it at school, and CRC used to have (as off the last time I bought some) a specific warning about welding while brake clean and other cleaning solvents are present. Re: Steam pipe manifold construction
Collin's (ToxicFab) new Evo manifold collector, albeit not welded, is some pretty beefy stuff, as are some of his other collector designs. Every RB25/26 I've ever worked on (or seen in person) had .065 wall 304 or 316 stainless I believe, which would be much lighter than boiler pipe. As Steve said, ...

Re: everybody needs to see this!!!!!
I don't know that I'd throw gas welding out the window AK, even if you never plan to use it in your line of work. It helped me more than anything else to become comfortable TIG welding. I never tried to gas weld steel, or chromoly for that matter, but I have gas welded aluminum, and it was definitel...

Re: engine block
What kind of car did it come out of? i.e. Year, Make, and Model. Like, a 2001 TransAm WS6. That would have an aluminum LS1. Even if none of these old timers ( )can help you identify the engine block, I can at least try and point you in the right direction! And I think the question that eve...

Re: Mig welding cast iron tips?
Joe, I understand that you have a lot of time into porting the cylinder head (believe me, I know how that can go), but welding a cast iron cylinder head is a PITA, and especially so without a large enough oven. Have you looked into drilling and pinning the crack? It's much more common, although, to ...
