6010 on a TA 186 inverter?

I got this ThermalArc 186 inverter. I discovered that it runs stick really nice (7018, 6011, 6013). I've heard 6010s are problematic on inverters. I haven't tried it yet but I don't want to spend the money for 6010 if they won't work. (I have a job that calls for 6010 and I hate to buy 5# of the stu...

Re: TIG vs Gas

Only an idiot would weld with batteries. It's VERY VERY dangerous, batteries can explode from internal sparks caused by the heavy current drain. DON'T do it. You can pick up an inexpensive AC/DC stick welder and hook up a TIG torch with a gas valve on it for scratch start. This will let you do steel...

Re: Miller 330 a/bp

I've owned one of these 330s for 16 years. Its a HOSS! Here's a trick I learned for making starting easier.
Ground out the tungsten on the work before lighting off, HF starts are much easier for some reason.

Re: Best welder for a newbie?

Thanks!!! I went down to TSC yesterday and looked at the Hobart's. I think I'm gonna go with the 190. It's more than she would need right now, but she can grow into it. And who knows, if things go well, there might be a little Millermatic in our future! :D Other Steve You should just get the Miller...

Re: suggestions from experienced shop owners

I started my business in 1999 as a sideline. I worked as a software engineer for a very large (now defunct) Canadian telecom company. I was there for over 20 years making great money but I knew it couldn't go on forever and sure enough, they folded and I was on the street. Being over 50 and no one w...

ThermalArc 186 are very nice. I paid $1700 for mine with foot petal and I love it. Wave balance? once you use it
you won't want to go back. Since I got the TA 186, I haven't even turned on the blue machine.

2 cents...

Hey all

New member here. I stumbled onto Jody's site and liked his videos. I have a motorcycle machine/welding shop I
mostly do Harley cylinder head work and miscellaneous welding jobs. I use a SuperFlow bench and a DynoJet 150
to test my products. I enjoy making things and fixing stuff.
