Re: MTI Power split frame cutting and beveling machine

Hey guys... I know I am new and don't know squat about welding yet but I like looking at this stuff and I am an educated person so I am going to chime in. This apparatus/machine seems to be something that would be GREAT in an area where "Pipeline" was exposed but underground or some place ...

Re: new welding table from scrap yard...

@79jasper, it is definitely some type of paint or coating. I was able to grind it off but it seemed to take forever. @Steve, I am glad you brought that up. Not sure if you can see it from the pictures but I am wondering about something. "Remember" I am a noob, the table itself has a SOLID ...

Re: new welding table from scrap yard...

Bugel, that is a nice looking table. I just wanted to do an update on my table top, I finally got it home and cut it with the new ForceCut 80i from Longevity and all I need to do now is tack it on, weld up the side plates and grind the top. I have been thinking of making a "folding" plasma...

Re: UPDATED - Used my new Plasma machine today

So, I haven't been online lately due to computer issues but I have had time to play with my new machine and I must say I am very impressed. I don't have any plasma experience so I have nothing to compare it to however I can say that after my initial test cut and ruining a tip I learned that I must k...

Re: to start ANOTHER topic "Consumables"...

Hey everyone, sorry but my laptop video crapped out on me so I am now using my HDMI with my 32" for internet usage. Not terrible but will have to replace the MB in my laptop. So, back to the topic at hand. Here is a picture of the consumables and the TORCH head, I only took it apart to see if t...

Re: to start ANOTHER topic "Consumables"...

CC, I am not seeing anything out yet to really help for consumables on the IPT-80. It appears that it is still new on the market. Here is a link to the PT-80 as a reference and for what its worth it looks like what is in your picture. Can you turn the torch around and see what model is printed on t...

Re: Slag...

This is one of those things that I show in my demos for the students. Sometimes the peeling of the slag is a good indicator that the gap, speed, and amps where good on that weld, but the temp of you practice piece will play a part in this too. The hotter the practice piece gets the less you see tha...

to start ANOTHER topic "Consumables"...

 Hey everyone, I am getting more and more frustrated with LONGEVITY. The salesman told me that my local AIRGAS would have the consumables. "THEY" have never heard of the company and need part numbers etc.. My question is: Where can I purchase (besides directly through Long...) consum...

Re: Recieved My new Plasma machine today

Thanks for that info, I fired it up today... it cut through 3/8 no problem then I tied an old piece of railroad track. it is rusty and the blow back ruined my tip immediately! Since Longevity sent me the incorrect consumables I am going to wait until I receive additional tips to continue. I believe ...

Re: Recieved My new Plasma machine today

Thanks for sharing, I looked around like all of us do but being a disabled vet on a fixed income I had to buy what I could afford. What I liked most about the Longevity brand is that it comes with a 5 year warranty, all you pay is S/H. This machine is also inverter technology has the IPT-80 torch, I...

Re: Welding Table Top question

Glen, yes anything at the yard that is 'used' is only .30 a lb. they have 'new' metal and it is either .50 or .55 lb. The new metal sits outside so it has surface rust but is considered new because it has not been used previously. I love going there, they have so much crap... today I saw a guy bring...

Re: Welding Table Top question

Yeah I know I believe it will be a great top but extremely heavy. I think once I get it cut down to size and tacked on the table it will still be around 400lb... I am going to reinforce the legs and the center of the table. As for the cart, I got it for .30 a pound but the casters were NOT included....

Re: Recieved My new Plasma machine today

Steve, Well I read your statement and I viewed that thread(I actually read that one last night as well). Re: Welding Table Top question

Steve, That thing is 5x7 and my current table is 3x5 so a lot of it is going to get cut away (thank GOD!). My only concern is that my current table has a 1/8" flat surface (complete). I guess I will have to "cut" it wherever the squares are on the new piece just to have places to clam...

Re: Welding Table Top question

Ok, I made it back down to the scrap yard at the last minute yesterday to get some pics of that 3/4" plate.. Please tell me what you all think, if I should use it for a table top or not. Another thing, I know I have nothing but questions now and hopefully I can contribute as I learn throughout ...

Recieved My new Plasma machine today

Hey everyone, Well I received my "overdue" plasma cutter today only to be disappointed with my order. I ordered a Longevity ForceCut 80i on 6/13, it did not ship until the 6/19 and arrived today. I video taped the unpacking as I thought I would upload it to my 'youtube' account later, unfo...

Re: Welding Table Top question

CrazyCarl, There is nothing quite like having 10 thousand ways /places /angles to clamp stuff to your table. 3/4" is not too heavy, especially with the removed material. It will help with rigidity. I'd jump at it. I'd also try to trade the part you don't use for a piece of 1/4" or 3/8&quo...

Oh man, please don't apologize. This is a FORUM, the people who make up this place are doing this out of the kindness of their hearts... they don't expect anything but friendship and an occasional "pat" on the back. The plate is there, I have reserved it and it weights 600 lb. It is heavy,...

Re: Welding Table Top question

No it is steel, I called the yard yesterday and told them it was too thick as I had not heard anything back from anyone. I believe they have ALREADY cut it up... I will call them immediately to check, as for the 3/8" I have a 4x4' sheet here at the house. I am totally confused and I hope I don'...

Welding Table Top question

Hello everyone, I have seen several different styles of table tops for welding carts but I need to ask 2 questions: 1. why do some have squares and round holes and what are they used for? 2.Is 3/4" too thick? I found a nice 3/4" piece of steel at the scrap yard it is already machined (CNC/...
