Re: I Blame Jody's Video's, He's Evil!

As I hate noise I happen to own a decibel meter. The RPC measured 66 decibels with the meter inches from the idler. About 8 feet away 56 decibels, that's fairly quiet.

Re: I Blame Jody's Video's, He's Evil!

Rotary Phase Converter complete! Overall fit and finish really nice but there were some quality control issues, some guy named Chuck signed and dated it, he needs to pay more attention to detail. 1. On/Off switch fell off, they never tightened it, I had to unwrap the black tape, remove it, install i...

Re: I Blame Jody's Video's, He's Evil!

American Rotary RPC - There's less expensive RPC's out there, but every time I try to go cheap I get screwed so I'm fed up with that happening and went with American Rotary. Approved by Haas they have their act together. The generator motor is Gentek manufactured by Baldor in USA, came in a Baldor ...

American Rotary, one of the more expensive brands but the only one approved by Haas to run their CNC machines. I took a bunch of pictures after unpacking everything this evening and will be posting them in the next day or two.

Re: I Blame Jody's Video's, He's Evil!

5HP, technically it will run 3 phase motors up to 2.5HP e.g. half the RPC rating. But that is only a loose guide. If the 3 phase machine starts easily, it might run a 3-4 HP 3 phase motor. A hard starting machine like a dust collector maybe max 2.5 HP.

The Zip miter bandsaw is 3ph, pretty much all of them are except for the Baileigh. I have some other potential uses for 3ph powered machines so it was time to pick up a RPC.

I scratch build mine from the ground up, hybrid turret/PCB .125 thick, plated through holes. I just build for fun I don't sell amps, I donated the last batch I built to some worthy musicians. You could try building your own Marshall from a kit its not that hard. Scratch building is more work and mor...

Yeah I've decided to go with a rigging crew to move it in. I'll lift it myself since I should be able to do that with my equipment, it's just the moving and driveway that are sketchy. I have a 2 ton shop crane that looks like the mill foot print will fit in at the 1.5 and 2 ton lift points. It's th...

Re: Need some tips and tricks... Thin gauge stainless

Your work bench is stressing me out by the way :o I think what you need is a jig for welding that. A couple big blocks of aluminum so the piece sets up against it flat at 90 degrees with some fingers coming down to hold the cross braces in place. If I had to weld a bunch of those I'd fab a jig.

Clamp one end of a length of mig wire in a vise, grab the other end and pull until you feel the wire give slightly, it will then be straight.

Re: TIG noob question

For me, I would do as Steve (Otto) suggested. You can clamp the base plate to something stronger, and move your heat around more; do a bit on one side, go to the other side, let it cool, repeat. Or as Metal suggested, post heat on the reverse side of the base plate; if it were me, I would heat an a...

Next noob question...selecting amps when welding different thicknesses together, in this case 1/2 thick plate to 3/16 wall square tubing, 304 stainless. A 4x4 1/2 inch plate will be drilled and tapped for a caster, then welded to a machine base made of 3x3 3/16 wall 304 stainless. Or I may weld it u...

TIG noob question

I'm working on a project that does not require tight tolerances so in terms of metal moving/sucking towards the heat I figured I'd use this as a learning opportunity. Material is 2.5 by .375 CRS. Here's what I'm fabricating http://www.coolidgeamps.com/pics/weld7.jpg These T joints were no problem. I...
