Re: BAD GAS/WRONG GAS
If they gave it to you then the price was right but after all I have read, I wouldn't pay the "left nut" asking price for one.

Re: BAD GAS/WRONG GAS
I was thinking about ordering a set off Amazon so I could get multiple different cup sizes but now I think I'm just going to go to the LWS and buy just one and see if it works or not. The large gas lens is the one I want to use but like I said they gave me the wrong insulator and It was not sealing...

Re: 4043 vs. 4943
FINALLY! I've done quite a bit of work with both, I don't really notice a difference in welding them but supposedly, 4943 is stronger in fillet type welds so I feel better about myself when I weld with 4943. I'm glad that 4943 helps you with your welding anxiety. I was expecting an omnipotent...

Re: Cast iron tig braze - aluminum bronze
I recently picked up some N-82 filler wire...any opinion on that? I bought it by mistake as I mis-read the bin it was in but I did a little snooping and I read it's pretty good for cast iron so I hung onto it. Inconel 82 is a good dissimilar rod also. LINK to a PDF file Thanks Richard. I will proba...

4043 vs. 4943
I finally scored some 4943 AL filler. Been dying to see the differences. Just a coincidence that Jody came out with a new vid a few hours ago that shows him and his friend JD welding up a project using 4943. I thought I would put in my 2cts. 20170509_155156.jpg The pic to the left , a gapped butt, 4...

That's going to be cool. Are you going to braze it together or do the pieces attach to a frame?

jeff have you ever used the liquid type? craig Never have. I started using the powder on recommendation from a friend who also welds on kegs for homebrewers. It just looks better to return a keg to the owner with the welds nice and clean and bright rather than colored and I know the brewers all use...

Depends on the quality of finish. If you're implying that even colored finish anodized will scratch as easily as raw AL then you need to read the article. ANYTHING can be scratched

On a more serious note-when you pressure test a vessel with water-how do you find the failure point? Does a small pinhole happen or is it a reading somewhere in the tubing.
Very interesting science.

I'm starting to think the throttle body flange I purchased might have some sort of anodise on it. I know it sounds stupid but it doesn't look like anodise but it doesn't look like raw aluminium either. I just wrote it off as me being silly because it's sold as being used for welding but I'm having ...

Re: Diagnose this!!! I'm losing patience
Trying to weld galvanized metal will really mess up your tungsten but welding aluminum won't crap it up unless you dip. You will get a little oxidation on your tungsten but not enough to mess with your weld. When you weld on DC your electrode will stay nice and bright as long as you have a good post...

I took out the cheap gas lens I purchased. Put in the one that came with the machine. I learned a lot from this thread, there's a few things I'd like to make sure I've got right: Did the machine come with a gas lens or a standard collet body? During the original diagnosis, it seemed like you were a...

I just wet a greenie pad and sprinkle the powder on it and work it into the pad and then just scrub the welds and leave it sit for a few minutes and then rinse or wipe it off. Makes stainless welds look like they grew there. It's freaking awesome on copper too. I use it to clean old copper pipes wh...
