Re: Tungsten Question

I assume you are talking about the little nodules near the tip... I am no expert. All I weld is filthy aluminum in the boat repair business I have. I had the same thing with the E3 Radnor tungsten I was using. 3/32" nothing less than 150amps. I suppose once I am into a weld on some thin pontoon...

I think you will have a hell of a time getting a chamber to temp or lowering the temp when it gets too hot with that wall thickness.

Re: Superflex hose - needs protection or not?

I like the sleeve and use it. I wish it was made from a less melty product but my hoses are the better for it I am positive. My hoses get draped and pulled over sharp corners, hot welds, dog dishes, you name it...what ever it takes to get from the 1st repair to the last.

Re: Help! I can't TIG weld

By the lack of a clear etching line from what I can see on the little phone pictures I look at it would appear that you are not holding the tip close enough. You have to get it right down in there. So close that when you dip the filler in you have to lift the tungsten a little to keep from getting i...

Re: Inconsistent arc start

I've only had the issues once. I started by cleaning the contact areas of the ground clamp. That solved it. I had also replaced my collet at the same time but I think it was scraping the ground clamp that did it.

thanks Oscar. I was thinking the 280-300 amp wire feeds would be fine. I guess I'll do the 350 from lincoln. Seems to fit in the suggestions and its less than 6 grand. It'll pay for itself in weeks. Maybe 2nmonths tops.

I must have confused something. Everything I do comes to my shop, period. No mobile work. Its just not worth it. Costs too much to be mobile and all these shops have lots of young strong guys. They load it on my work barge and haul it to me. Customers willingly pay.

Re: Transformer based mig

Thanks, didnt dawn on me but makes all the sense in the world. Are there disadvantages to having to go with a separate wire feed box? Advantages? I primarily weld dirty aluminum in the marine world, skegs, pontoons, boat hoists and such. My dynasty has that covered. Recently the local welding place ...

Transformer based mig

Well, awhile back I was gonna pull the trigger and buy the HTP 2400. I believed that was a 280 amp transformer mig. I hesitated. Now I am needing a mig with balls. I dont think I want an inverter. I am sure I dont. Big heavy coils of copper on wheels will do what I want. With that said htp is out, C...

anyone have the expansion card? I am wondering if anyone has heard of a place where you could get one to try? At ~$500 I would want to know if its going to help before I purchase it. Re: TIG welding crack on 4130 chrome moly

What level of go-kart are we talking about that has a 4130 frame? Is this some kind of race deal? I put together one for a nephew and all the welds had to be x-rayed, granted this wasn't your typical go-kart. We ended up sending it to a buddy of mine who welds dragsters and had the ability to get it...

Re: New TIG Welding, new welder, new gas bottle, bad welds

After careful reading I think he actually had two issues occurring at different times. 1. He stated he got clean welds with no filler...that means there wasn't much of a leak, therefore, it was something involving the introduction of filler. 2. He stated that the back cap wasn't coming down all the ...

Re: New TIG Welding, new welder, new gas bottle, bad welds

Looks like you need to set the torch up better. Little oring for the cap maybe? You aren't getting good gas coverage. Also appears maybe too much torch angle and a long arc. So, put you tungsten in so it sticks out maybe 1/8" or 3/16" from the cup. Dial in about 20 feet of flow, secure bac...
