I went with the lock on version as it's all I've ever known. I hate paddles on some of my air tools as you set them down wrong and they tend inadvertently operate. I probably should have ordered two at that price.

Thanks for all the thoughts. I ordered the linked grinder from bakers. My Airgas wants 300 for the same model #.
NOT intended to start an airgas bashing thread, I like them actually. Been really good to me.

Re: Aluminium TIG Welding Drill - I'm Perplexed!
I weld a lot of dirty aluminum in the boat repair business. Cast certainly weld different. The 5000 series plate seems to be different than the tubing I encounter which is usually a 6000 series. I find it odd this thread popped up today. I am using brand new 6061 right now to reinforce a cracked and...

Well, need a new 4 1/2 grinder...has makita gone downhill?
4 1/2 grinders. I've been using my Makita's for several years. 2006 or so. I've got one that's getting hot now. Hot enough you need gloves. Yes, I am a wuss. It's not making funny noises, just heat. So time to have a back up ready. I hear everyone saying metabo. My question: have the Makitas done do...

Re: Welding cast aluminum...
Sorry I missed this thread. I just did three of those in the last two weeks. There is a company out of texas that makes fine repair blanks for those if you loose the broke piece. I use 5356 filler. Seems to do the best for me. Some merc castings are dirty but they are all better than volvo or brp. T...

Just want to give a shout out to my praxair dealer. They hooked me up with a sample of this famed 4943. I'll post how it worked this week.

4943 and filling holes in cast aluminum
I have a mercury Y pipe to weld a hole up in. In the past I have used 5356 and 4043. The 4043 seems to have issues with hole filling and hot short cracking. This is an wet exhaust component so the heat resistant properties of a 40 series filler are preferred over 5356. Question is: Those of you with...

Dirty cast aluminum = $$$$
I'm getting $325 a piece from 3 different local marinas. Faired and painted. I do 3-5/wk.

I just did some 1/4" 5052 today. Two pieces the smaller was 10"×16" the larger two were 10"×36" so, a 10" fillet I started out with my machine at 280 but dialed it back to 250 and didnt use it all. 1/8" tri mix wolfram tungsten #8 cup and gas lense. 20 on the gas. ...

Jody's weldmonger TIG gloves
Has anyone bought these? I am curious about the leather. What model tilman glove is the leather similar to? Is it thin? Is it the rough suede type or the smooth finished type of leather? These are things I just cant tell from pictures and videos.

I like to ball my tri-mix tungsten ever so slightly. It prevents the nodules forming. I only weld AC though, no steel experience.

With my dynasty, the ws2 tri mix from wolfram performs the best when welding both cast aluminum and dirty aluminum tube.
Next best was E3.
I never understood what good tungsten was till I used it.

Well, that is certainly impressive to a guy like me...When you weldup those long pipes with all the things coming off it do you have to figure for any distortion? Like weld the 2nd from the left then the third from the right kind of thing? I sure envy you all that get to weld all week. I am lucky to...

Thanks for posting that @BigD
It's nice to see stuff and hear what had to be done to accomplish it.
We had a little squall come through and I have been busy repairing some aluminum dock sections. Similar issues even if I do have a few more amps available.
